Brit Music Scene Review Of The Year 2008 - Part Four: October to December

2009 has arrived so I'm actually overdue in rounding up my best of Brit Music Scene from 2008. Here we finally make it to the end of 2008 with the biggest stories and talking points between the months of October and December

October

The month began with Rick Astley unbelievably being named Best Act Ever by MTV. Meanwhile, Led Zeppelin were threatening to tour with a new lead singer in place of Robert Plant, and Pete Kay beat Leon Jackson in the charts.

There were rumors that The long-awaited Smiths reunion could finally be happening, but it still hasn’t yet. The Ting Tings called for Top Of The Pops to be brought back, and it looked as though Simon Cowell was the man to save the show.

November

November saw Rod Stewart confirm The Faces are getting back together. While Chris Martin seemed to suggest Coldplay would be heading in the other direction and splitting. I also asked “whatever happened to Dido” after the singer’s new album was panned by the critics.

The Catholic Church finally looked to have forgiven John Lennon for his comments in the 1960s that The Beatles were “more popular than Jesus.” About time too. And Noel Gallagher caused controversy by stating that Oasis were now as big as The Rolling Stones.

December

The month began with Blur reforming, something I never thought would happen. Then there was a big hoohah about whether Coldplay had plagiarized a Joe Satriani song. Meanwhile, Alexandra Burke won The X Factor 2009 and rightly so.

There were rumors of The Darkness reforming although I can’t see it happening. For Christmas, I gave you the Top 10 Greatest Christmas Songs Of All Time, and for New Year, I gave you a list of the biggest singles and albums in the UK over the past 12 months.

If you missed the Brit Music Scene, you can read Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 here. And now it’s time to get on with 2009 and see what the next 12 months have in store for British music.
