| Take That & Robbie Top Reunion Poll - Beating Led Zep, Smiths, Stone Roses Posted: 26 Jan 2009 05:38 PM PST  Band reunions are a strange beast: they are a mix of doing it for the fans and doing it for the money, they rarely last very long, and they even more rarely live up to expectations. But despite all of this, millions of people want to see their favorite groups reform. British groups seem to be making a habit of reforming. Since I’ve been writing Brit Music Scene, we have seen The Verve, Boyzone, Led Zeppelin (for a one off concert), The Police, The Sex Pistols, The Spice Girls, Blur, and Take That all get back together in some form. Then there are the ongoing rumors surrounding further reunions. The big ones are Led Zeppelin, The Smiths, The Stone Roses, and Robbie Williams rejoining Take That to make it a proper reunion. So no surprise then that those four bands were all included in a recent MTV poll to find out which group most people would like to see back together.
Take That and Robbie were always going to be the top choice, especially amongst the mostly 16 - 35 age group who watch MTV. Whether it’ll ever happen is still unclear although there are consistent rumors that Robbie does want to make an appearance at a Take That concert during 2009. Proving this is a UK-based poll is the fact that Blue came second. Most people outside of the UK won’t even know who this boyband are, and most of us in the UK really couldn’t give two hoots whether they reform or not. At least those of us with taste. Three absolute giants of guitar music then round out the poll. It looks as though Led Zeppelin are now dead in the water, and certainly there’s no chance of Robert Plant being involved even if the rest of the band decide to carry on. The Smiths and The Stone Roses keep threatening to reform but I regard it more as wishful thinking on the part of the fans and certain band members than anything else. There seems to be too much history for either to really be able to get back together.
