Aly & AJ are back with a new Cd and a new sound. They have added new wave sonics- like synths & voice effects- which sound different than their previous work. While I loved the sound of " Into the Rush"- I realize that artists have to grow and try to keep up with the time. The sound may have changed but the great talent of the Michalka sisters remains. They have great voices and write all their own songs which are very personal mostly about breaking up and falling in love. While I like all the songs the standouts are Potential Breakup Song-the first single; Insomniatic , a hard rocker; Like Whoa, a really fun upbeat song; and Silence, the most beautiful song Aly & AJ have ever recorded!
There is also a great remix of Chemicals React - my all-time favorite Aly & AJ song.
The new sound and at times overwhelming production of the CD may put some peaople off- but I think the sincerity & talent of Aly & AJ will win over people who give it a try.
Aly & AJ remain fine singers and worthy role models and this CD is a potential smash hit in my book!

Kicking in like a compellingly acrimonious version of Rush ("Megalomaniac") before meandering through what can rather uncomfortably be termed noodly, time-signature lottery jazz-metal terrain A Crow Left of Murder probably identifies Incubus as the average Pearl Jam fan's second-choice for chin-stroking mosh action. Brendon O'Brien (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam) produces and singer Brandon Boyd possibly fancies himself as a bit of a Vedder-esque sage, even blustering "My secret arsenal is an infinite ageless ink well" on the otherwise acceptable metal squawk of "Pistola".
Boyd obviously has big issues with the ills of the world but the lyrics to "Talk Show on Mute" (reality TV is bad, especially Big Brother) and "Zee Deveel" (nice cars, nice clothes and other status symbols are bad) say nothing to enhance mankind's understanding of these twin evils. Incubus are probably on firmer ground with "Made for TV Movie" (like "Megalomaniac" it's an anti-War-on-Terror diatribe) and musically they're to be applauded for sidestepping the prescripted expectations of the metal genre they've been saddled with. Ultimately, however, one's enjoyment of this record swings on whether one considers Brandon Boyd's societal musings to be deeply venerable discourse or just soppy waffle. --Kevin Maidment

Unquestionably one of rock's greatest vocalists, Rod Stewart should have titled this album Great Rock Classics of My Time. Most of these Top 40 tunes and others like Dylan's "If Not for You" were popularized in the early to mid-'70s, when Stewart was entering his rock prime. He's perfect to croon Elvin Bishop's "Fooled Around and Fell in Love," soulfully pained on Bonnie Tyler's "It's a Heartache," and right in the pocket on the Pretenders' "I'll Stand by You." And his unmistakable raspiness puts another layer of wisdom on the old Cat Steven's classic "Father & Son." But you also have to wonder about some of the safe song choices, such Badfinger's "Day After Day" and Nazareth's "Love Hurts." Why he continues to record mossy cover songs is a legitimate question. What's stopping him from getting back in trenches with some contemporary rock songwriters and really reinventing himself? The karaoke lounge is no place for a guy this great to hang. --Martin Kelle

This is NO "boyband!" Michael Learns To Rock is an eclectic mix with a unique sound. They are pop, rock, and dash of contemporary country, believe it or not. This is my opinion anyway. As with their other albums, every song on this one stands on its own. MLTR performs various styles but still remains true. Colours should appeal to those who like all types of music. There is the beautiful ballad of "Sleeping Child." Rock songs such as "Wild Women" and "I'm Gonna Come Back." Finally, there's the love-loss story told in "25 Minutes," which sounds a little "contemporary country" with both its music and the lyrics. Overall, a great album.

Blame it on the bossa nova, but this chick has got soul. So much has been said and written about the Beatles -- and their story is so mythic in its sweep -- that it's difficult to summarize their career without restating clichés that have already been digested by tens of millions of rock fans. To start with the obvious, they were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Moreover, they were among the few artists of any discipline that were simultaneously the best at what they did and the most popular at what they did. Relentlessly imaginative and experimental, the Beatles grabbed a hold of the international mass consciousness in 1964 and never let go for the next six years, always staying ahead of the pack in terms of creativity but never losing their ability to communicate their increasingly sophisticated ideas to a mass audience. Their supremacy as rock icons remains unchallenged to this day, decades after their breakup in 1970.

Even when couching praise in specific terms, it's hard to convey the scope of the Beatles' achievements in a mere paragraph or two. They synthesized all that was good about early rock & roll, and changed it into something original and even more exciting. They established the prototype for the self-contained rock group that wrote and performed its own material. As composers, their craft and melodic inventiveness were second to none, and key to the evolution of rock from its blues/R&B-based forms into a style that was far more eclectic, but equally visceral. As singers, both John Lennon and Paul McCartney were among the best and most expressive vocalists in rock; the group's harmonies were intricate and exhilarating. As performers, they were (at least until touring had ground them down) exciting and photogenic; when they retreated into the studio, they were instrumental in pioneering advanced techniques and multi-layered arrangements. They were also the first British rock group to achieve worldwide prominence, launching a British Invasion that made rock truly an international phenomenon.

The Disney Channel hits paydirt again with this new musical featuring the popular Cheetah Girls. Led by Raven-Symoné as Galleria (she gets three solo tracks), the aspiring pop stars hit Barcelona this time, and use the opportunity to sing a lot of catchy songs. The younger fans of High School Musical will dig this, especially since the movie's helmed by the same director, Kenny Ortega, and most of the songs are written by the same team. The kids perform most of the tracks together, Spice Girls­-style: "Why Wait" is a zippy tune that's a little like Kelly Clarkson Lite, while "Step Up" incorporates R&B backings into an anthem-like chorus and several songs integrate Latin spices and additional vocals from guest Belinda Peregrin, a fab Mexican singer.
