Kelly Clarkson’s New Album “All I Ever Wanted”

Posted: 09 Jan 2009 01:53 PM PST

The title of American Idol winner, Kelly Clarkson's fourth album has finally been revealed.  All I Ever Wanted has a release date of March 17, 2009 and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon.com.

I know that "My Life Would Suck Without You" and "If I Can't Have You" are confirmed tracks but the rest is just speculation (kind of like when my life would suck without you - kelly clarksoneveryone was saying the album would be called Masquerade).  There have been leaks published all over the place (listen to a 30 second snippet of "My Life…" on MJ's Big Blog).

Have you heard any of the music yet?  If so, what do you think? It's kind of got a Pink meets old Kelly feel to it, in my opinion, but I only heard that little snippet so it's hard to judge.  I love the cover for that single, though (click to enlarge).

Jennifer Hudson Nominated for 7 NAACP Awards

Posted: 09 Jan 2009 01:41 PM PST

Jennifer Hudson has been nominated in seven categories at the 2009 Jennifer HudsonNAACP Image Awards and I couldn't be happier for her.

As you know, 2008 ended very badly for the singer/actress after her mother, brother and nephew were murdered and her brother-in-law was formally indicted for the crimes.  Let's hope that these nominations are just the beginning of a better year for Jennifer.  I know it can't bring her family back but it is something positive.

The former American Idol contestant is being recognized both for her singing and her acting abilities.  Here are the categories in which she is nominated (along with the lists of her fellow nominees):

NAACP Nominates Jordin Sparks for “No Air”

Posted: 09 Jan 2009 12:37 PM PST

American Idol winner, Jordin Sparks, has been nominated in the "Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration" category for her song "No Air" at imagethe upcoming 2009 NAACP Image Awards.  Jordin and Chris won a People's Choice Award earlier this week for their collaboration.

Here is who she's up against:

  • Anthony David & India.Arie – "Words"
  • Estelle feat. Kanye West – "American Boy"
  • Jennifer Hudson feat. Fantasia – "I'm His Only Woman"
  • Jordin Sparks feat. Chris Brown – "No Air"
  • Natalie Cole/ Nat "King" Cole – Walkin' My Baby Back Home"

This is a tough one for me because I really love "American Boy" so I'm torn about who should win.  Argh.

Sanjaya Malakar Releasing Book, Album

Posted: 09 Jan 2009 09:06 AM PST

sanjaya_dancing_to_the_music_in_my_head Sanjaya Malakar is back.  The American Idol season 6 finalist is releasing an album and a book on January 20, 2009 and both are titled Dancing to the Music in My Head (okay, technically, the book is called… wait for it… Dancing to the Music in My Head: Memoirs of the People’s Idol.  Wow…).  The book's official press release promises that "Sanjaya takes readers back to where it all began. Sanjaya treats readers to a behind-the-scenes look at his unlikely rise to fame on one of the biggest shows on television."  Yeah…

Listen to excerpts of his tracks "Quintessential Lullaby" and "A Guy Like Me" on the New York Post blog, Pop Tracks.  In the meantime, you can watch a video of him performing "Lullaby" here:

Okay, I couldn't resist.  I went to find a video of him singing "A Guy Like Me."  Tell me what you think:

You can pre-order the book on the Simon & Schuster website.  Are you going to buy the book or the album (or both)?

Paula Abdul Takes Dog on Doctor’s Visit

Posted: 09 Jan 2009 08:32 AM PST

American Idol judge, Paula Abdul, was spotted leaving some medical offices carrying her little Chihuahua, Tulip.  Poor little thing looks terrified!

Paula Abdul

I am guessing that this is the same dog that Paula broke her nose to avoid crushing just before the season finale in 2007.  In any case, it looks like she loves her little pup, cradling her like a little baby.  Paula's looking pretty good these days, isn't she?

American Idol Season 3: Top 10

Posted: 09 Jan 2009 08:02 AM PST

The third season of American Idol was finally a battle between two female contestants – Fantasia Barrino and Diana DeGarmo (pictured below on the set of the Larry King Show).

It was also the year that Jennifer Hudson was eliminated in 7th place.  I remember not being about to believe she was sent home and I wondered what was wrong with the public but she got her revenge by winning an Oscar award for her performance in Dreamgirls

Since the show Fantasia has released two albums (Free Yourself and Fantasia), has been nominated for awards and appeared in The Color Purple (April 2007 to January 2008) on Broadway.  She is expected to release a third album sometime this year.

Diana released one album, Blue Skies (2004), appeared on Broadway in the musical Hairspray (September 2006 to February 2007), performed at Carnegie Hall (April 2007) and finally made the career-changing decision to appear on Gone Country.  She released the country music track, "Right Back Where We Ended" and has won rave reviews in the genre.

Here are the Top 10 from season three.  I remember really liking Matthew Rogers so I'm happy he's now the host of the Discovery Channel's "Really Big Things."  Who did you like from this list?

  • Fantasia BarrinoWinner
  • Diana DeGarmo – Eliminated May 26, 2004
  • Jasmine Trias - Eliminated May 19
  • La Toya London - Eliminated May 12
  • George Huff - Eliminated May 5
  • John Stevens - Eliminated April 28
  • Jennifer Hudson - Eliminated April 21
  • Jon Peter Lewis - Eliminated April 15
  • Camile Velasco - Eliminated April 7
  • Amy Adams - Eliminated March 31
  • Matthew Rogers - Eliminated March 24
  • Leah LaBelle - Eliminated March 17
