Oasis - ‘Falling Down’ Music Video Review Posted: 08 Feb 2009 12:20 PM PST ![]() I regard Oasis as more of an albums band than a singles band. They’ve had some fantastic success with singles, and I’m sure people who love Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova while hating the rest of the band’s output will disagree with me. But their albums are generally where it’s at. Which makes reviewing a new Oasis single a tricky thing to do. Especially when the song works much better as part of the Dig Out Your Soul album than it does on its own. Oasis’ new single, the third from Dig Out Your Soul, is Falling Down, a Noel-sung slice of indie that doesn’t quite have the power of previous releases, The Shock Of The Lightning and I’m Outta Time. Music video and review after the cut. Falling Down is pure Noel Gallagher, with him not only writing and singing it, but being all over it. This gives it a very new retro kind of feel where it sounds bang up-to-date but also reminds you of a bygone era, circa 1969. The lyrics are pessimistically poetic, talking about things coming to an end, and all hope being lost. It could even be considered as a cry for help, to no-one, just being pushed out into the universe. I don’t know where Noel’s head was when he wrote this but I’d rather not visit. The video is an intriguing one, and not without controversy. We see a woman, supposedly a member of the royal family, who enjoys a secret party lifestyle. The two worlds collide at the end when she meets the band in an official capacity, only to be shunned. Falling Down isn’t the strongest Oasis single, and not even the strongest song on the album. But it’s got something about it that makes it work, and it’s definitely a grower. I’ll personally stick to listening to it on the album rather than on its own though.
