U2 On Letterman For Five Nights In A Row | But Peter Gabriel Pulls Out Of The Oscars

There’s mixed news today for British artists appearing in America - neither of which I’m particularly bothered about. I’m not a big fan of U2, mainly due to Bono’s do-gooding ways. And Peter Gabriel, well he’s just annoying.

U2 have announced they will perform on The Late Show with David Letterman five nights in a row. The run of appearances, scheduled for March 2nd through to the 6th, is to promote No Line On The Horizon, their new album due out in the States that same week.

The Irish group are expected to play songs from the album in an attempt to push sales hard in a country where they’re already massive. And it’s a good ploy because Letterman is still huge, with bands he has on usually seeing an upturn in sales.

U2 are the first group ever to have been afforded the honor, which just shows how massive they are in the States. I’m sure this will do great things for the group but surely anyone who knows and likes the band is already going to buy the album anyway?

Meanwhile, Peter Gabriel, who was once the lead singer of Genesis, before leaving to pursue a solo career, has pulled out of performing at the Oscars. I thought this was a shame until I learned that he was going to be performing Down To Earth from the Wall-E soundtrack.

In that case, this is hardly even news. A washed-up British musician isn’t going to perform his cartoon song because the Awards organizers deemed it too long? Give me a break, and Gabriel, get a life.
