| Brit Awards Betting Suspended Due To Paul Weller British Solo Male Artist Support Posted: 16 Feb 2009 09:28 AM PST The Brit Awards 2009 are being held on Wednesday, February 18. Brit Music Scene will be live blogging the event, writing up the results as they come in, and also reporting on the other happenings that usually make the Brits what they are. ![]() The Telegraph today reports that bookmakers have suspended betting on the results of the Brit Awards due to fears the list of winners has leaked. With two days to go to the event, it looks likely that someone has managed to get hold of the prized list. Bookmakers acted after there was an unusual flurry of bets for Paul Weller to win ‘British Solo Male Artist’. Weller was an outsider for the award, at 5/1, but has now seen his odds cut to 1/5 due to the influx of bets. The bets were all for £50 and placed at various different branches of William Hill betting shops around London. William Hill flagged the activity as unusual, and Ladbrokes, Paddy Power, and Tote suspended betting as a response. 1,000 music industry people vote for the Brit Award winners every year. Their votes are collected online and then collated and verified by independent adjudicators. This does, however, mean that there are a few links in the chain where a leak could have happened. If Weller does win ‘Best Male Solo Artist’, beating Ian Brown, James Morrison, The Streets, and Will Young along the way, then it’s clear that the system will have to be modified for next year. You can see the full list of nominations and who I want to win/think will win here.
