Girl Talk @ Newport Music Hall, Columbus Posted: 07 Feb 2009 12:31 PM CST Girl Talk came to Columbus, January 17th & 18th for a two-night party. Is “party” the right word? More like… two-night “all-out dance riot.” Read on for second-hand experience. Grand Buffet (right) was the opening act. (Well… the only one worth mentioning. Hearts of Darknesses - with the exception of their drummer - were terrible, and the first act didn’t even warrant me making a note of their name.) This hip-hop duo from Pittsburgh warmed up the crowd with their satire-heavy lyrics and their entertaining banter between songs - with rants on everything from politics to birth control to Red Delicious apples. A smart choice for the thousands of fans waiting eagerly to see Gregg Gillis (below). As I was shooting photos from the balcony during the Girl Talk set, a middle-aged woman approached me and began to marvel at the intensity of the show. She was there with her two step-daughters, and was completely in awe - to be honest, so was I. Unbelievable doesn’t even come close to describing this show, and I don’t think I can manage to put it into adequate words, so I’ll just let the pictures speak for themselves. You can head to www.dennysallnighter.com to vote for your favorite band to make sure they’re well-fed on tour so they can rock out hard every night. Bands currently in the contest include: You can vote now and submit your own band for the next round of voting here! Some of Denny’s favorite adopted bands have been allowed to takeover the kitchen and create their own delicious concoction that is adde. Popwreckoning darling Katy Perry came up with the ‘Hot ‘N Cold Cherry Chocolate Cappuccino’, a multi-layered cold beverage including cherries, vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, French vanilla cappuccino and whipped cream with a cherry on top. Rockers Hoobastank married BBQ pizza with a burrito for the ‘Hooburrito’ while Taking Back Sunday created the ‘Melty Grilled Chicken and Sausage Quesadilla’. Yum! Taco Bell also holds a similar contest called ‘Feed The Beat‘. Now if only some coffee shop would run a similar contest for music blogs…Starbucks, anyone? Related Posts |
