DJ Koco - With The Dope Sound

Posted: 10 Feb 2009 02:30 PM PST

I don't know too much about Koco other than that he's a Japanese DJ in high demand for tapes and shows, goes by the alias Shimokita and has a few mixes to his credit over at Discogs. The good folks at the T.R.O.Y. Forum put me on to this particular mixtape, which I am inclined to praise very, very highly. Unlike many DJs whose playlists reflect either some kind of narrow generic bias or an ill-conceived attempt at eclecticism that please nobody, With The Dope Sound boasts a refreshing mix of artists from various eras and walks of life whose songs share the same wonderful commonality - hard beats. Beats that bang. I'm not the greatest judge of mixing, being more concerned with sequencing and quality, but a friend who is picky about such things assures me that Koco is skilled both as a technician and as a sound provider. What more can you ask for? YOU GOT RAWKOTICS "HARDCORE HIP HOP" LEADING INTO BDP "WHY IS THAT". If that means nothing to you, this isn't for you. Actually it is, download this no matter who you are, no matter who you are.

Ohio Hip Hop Round 2

Posted: 10 Feb 2009 03:00 AM PST

As you have probably figured out by now, I am not exclusively into hard, gritty east coast rap. Sometimes a good slice of g-funk hits just right. Today we've got more underground hip hop out of Ohio. Cities featured include Columbus, Cincinatti and Cleveland. This mix has some smooth shit so dont sleep!
