The Mentalists Cover MGMT Using iPhones Posted: 10 Mar 2009 07:48 PM PDT MGMT are an American band, and not really in my remit here on Brit Music Scene. Which is a real shame because they are fantastic, and Oracular Spectacular is a brilliant album. But alas, they were born Yanks so there’s nothing I can do about it. Except when a British band called The Mentalists cover one of MGMT’s songs using just Apple iPhones and a set of freely available apps. Here, the London band give a live rendition of their version of Kids. The Mentalists use the Ocarina, Retro Synth, miniSynth, and DigiDrummer Lite applications, all available for free from the Apple iPhone Store. And it sounds great, all things considered. It may not be a future number one, but it has made The Mentalists semi-famous around the world. And the best thing is it shows a new way of making music using just a smartphone and some free apps. That can’t be bad. Tags: App Store, Apple, Brit, British, DigiDrummer, iPhone, iPhone Apps, Kids, MGMT, miniSynth, Ocarina, Retro Synth, The Mentalists, UK |
