Do Producers Pick Songs for American Idol Contestants? Posted: 02 Mar 2009 11:12 AM PST American Idol season 7 finalist, Jason Yeager, made a video blog after last week's performance by Group 2 of the Top 36 contestants this season. As was the case with Group 1, the song selection was horrible and actually resulted in the elimination of some great singers, if you ask me. The judges berated the hopefuls for picking bad songs but Yeager says that it's not completely up to the contestants. Here's what he said: "The judges are always harping on song choice, song choice, song choice, but you're given a very short list of songs that they have paid the rights to air on television and you pick 3 songs off of that list and the producers tell you which one you're gonna do.." So, you have some choice over what you will song but not completely. What do you think of this? Jason also had some revealing things to say about Mishavonna Henson. He claims that her mother is "one of those really bad stage moms" and he wonders about how her mother reacted after Misha was eliminated.
