DEFinition, The Art & Design Of Hip Hop Posted: 10 Mar 2009 12:46 PM PDT Cey Adams created some of hip-hop's most memorable album covers as the art director for Def Jam Recordings in the late 1980s and 1990s. Now Adams and former Def Jam publicist Bill Adler have created a book, DEFinition: The Art and Design of Hip-Hop (Collins Design) that champions the impact of hip-hop-inspired design on music, fashion, advertising, and more. GIANT Magazine gives you an exclusive, six-part online look inside the creation of this book, with narration from author Bill Adler and cameos from artists like Ice-T and Run (of Run-D.M.C.). I put about 50 or 60 bars on this so it got a couple quotables in there lol. - I definetely need to shout out REASON CLOTHING for sponsoring this weeks video check em out (www.reasonclothing.com) they have been doing pretty well as of late annd they just opened up their own store in SOHO a couple months ago so check em out. - I WANNA THANK YOU ALL who have been supporting me and the movement, Its alot of hard work. Its tough enough some weeks to just record the right track, then to add i gotta shoot a video to it every week and then have it edited and processed ready to go. Step Ya DJ Game Up! The $64,000 Turntable!!!! Posted: 10 Mar 2009 09:36 AM PDT This Turntable Better Scratch, Blend, & Transform By Itself For $64,000!!! ![]() Attention audiophiles, old-school vinyl listeners and the very rich: Do I have a piece of stereo equipment for you. It's called the Gabriel Turntable, and you won't find it at Wal-Mart. Crafted in limited editions by an Italian company that will engrave each buyer's name on it, the Gabriel is to a Kenner Close 'N Play what a Ferrari is to a Yugo. A true reference turntable equipped with a base that can accept up to four arms. The materials used include aluminum, bronze and stainless steel. The turntable and arm are totally decoupled at several points - beneath the base, beneath the turntable and beneath the pin, using a magnetic field calibrated and controlled with great precision. Type: magnetic levitation Transmission: double Belt in special material Thrust block: Magnetic levitation with absolutely no friction or noise. The tolerance levels of the mechanical parts are incredibly low. Power supply: Three speeds, 33 – 45 – 78 rpm with fine regulation. The motor is controlled by two electronic cards, the first controls the speed electronically and the second card reduces the motor vibrations by means of electrical adjustment of the phase of the motor itself. The Gabriel Arm is made in Modena, Italy in the same factory where they construct precision parts in highly technical alloys for Ferrari. The arm is a very sophisticated achievement of which we are very proud. The Gabriel turntable and arm require absolutely no antiskating and in fact have no provisions for it. The turntable system is composed of three parts - the table and base for one to four arms; the 13-inch arm; and the cartridge. The Gabriel frame consists of two cone sections created by overlapping bronze with aluminium. These sections are joined by an aluminum rod. The first cone supports the turntable bearing, the second the arm and its mount. The assembled unit is quite tall and heavy: over 30 kilos. In terms of appearance, this is one of those analog monuments which catches everyone's eye the first time they see it. Having to produce a top-class record player trying to get away from the constraints of traditional construction, we had to devise a completely new suspension system. And it is truly disconcerting. Gabriel is a magnetic suspension record player. The repulsive force is used not merely as a suspension system but also to support the turntable. This does away with the need for the traditional pinion thrust-block ball bearing bathed in oil, which is the fundamental critical part for any traditional record player. In practice, the turntable spindle unit is lifted by the force of the magnets while the centering system consists of self-lubricating brass bearings. The 12+12-pin motor is synchronous, constrains the rotational speed to the mains frequency and uses an external power supply. This outboard unit has a twin control circuit: the first is based on the constant frequency signal generated by a quartz and amplified by an active solid-state circuit coupled to the motor via output transformer and operating as the speed controller. The second control circuit is passive and regulates the timing between the motor windings, compensating for rotational irregularities and reducing the vibrations created by the running motor. Finally, the motor support with its very heavy base and a series of flexible isolators reduces remaining vibrations further. An equally innovative approach was used for the design and creation of the arm. First, the joint system, as for the record player spindle, is a magnetic suspension system as well. To optimize the performance of the arm, three fundamental areas were focused on: considerable actual length to reduce radial tracking error; reduction of joint friction; and resonance damping. |

Jim Jones Talks Details @ E1 Entertainment (Formerly KOCH) Posted: 10 Mar 2009 02:02 AM PDT Jim Jones Details VP Duties At E1 Entertainment, "We're Gonna Switch It Up" Byrd Gang leader Jim Jones has revealed his plans as E1's (formerly Koch Records) newly appointed Vice President of Urban A&R to change the company's past business formats. Jim recently explained how the opportunity presented itself and his anticipation on bringing about change. "Koch gave me my start in the game....They've seen what I've done as far as the succes with Diplomats and Byrd Gang...It's an opportunity to work over there and help them create a new business format for Koch as far as how they sign artists and looking for new artists instead of what they known for as far as giving artists that have already been out there a chance, or a last chance as people would say. We're gonna switch it up...In this game, you don't get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate. Sometimes you can negotiate more than you deserve." (iHipHop) Jones' new position at the independent record company was decided upon last January. KOCH Records announces the addition of Hip Hop superstar Jim Jones to its Executive staff. Jones joins the team as Vice President of Urban A&R. Under this new title, Jones will be responsible for signing and nurturing new talent to KOCH Records' urban roster. (MSNBC) Both Jones and the company's general manager previously spoke on the power move. Alan Grunblatt, GM, states, "Jim Jones put Koch on the map," he said in a statement. "He truly knows what it take sto make a hit record. I am thrilled to be working with him for many years to come." Jim reacted by saying, "It feels good to know that the hard work has been recognized by the same people that helped me get to this point in my career. They recognize that I'm not only an artist but a person that can smell talent and be able to mold a superstar." (Reuters) Koch Records' name was officially changed earlier this year. KOCH Records is changing its name to E1 Music effective immediately. E1 Entertainment, the Canadian parent company of KOCH, has announced the transition in an effort to put all of its subsidiaries under one global banner. (Press Release) Check out Jim Jones talking about his new role at E1 Entertainment below: |
