| A Steps Reunion - Not April Fool’s Day Joke Posted: 01 Apr 2009 10:38 AM PDT ![]() It’s April Fool’s Day again, and newspapers and Web sites are full of fake stories intended to make us laugh. This story, of Steps planning a reunion, made me laugh when I read it, but bizarrely it isn’t an April Fool’s Day Joke. Oh. Dear. There are some band reunions I’d like to see and some others that I’m not too fussed either way about. Then, there are some that I positively detest the idea of. Boyzone was one, and Steps is another. The first has already happened and it looks as though the second could happen in the not-too-distant future as well. For those who aren’t aware of Steps, count yourself lucky that you’ve gone this long without suffering them. But I’m here to make you suffer by embedding one of their preposterously cheesy, over-the-top, maddeningly upbeat videos. Enjoy 5, 6, 7, 8. Or not, as the case may be. Believe it or not after watching that, Steps were incredibly popular. Although that doesn’t prove anything because Nickelback also sell lots of records despite being atrocious. Between 1997 and 2002, they sold 15 million records and had 14 consecutive top ten hits. Just don’t ask me how. They then split to the delight of many, and each of the five members has struggled to achieve any kind of fame afterwards. In fact, I think you can see two of Steps working in a branch of McDonald’s somewhere in London. That may be about to change though. In an interview with Music-News, Lee Latchford-Evans spoke about the possibility of a Steps reunion happening sometime in the future. When his new acting career fails, as it clearly will do, then he may be tempted.
I can’t actually believe someone has offered Steps money to re-form, but apparently they have. Luckily, it’s not happening right now but I can sense it won’t be long. I may not be a fan but I certainly wouldn’t blame them for taking the money for a comeback. Just don’t expect me to buy any of the records or attend the concerts.
