Further Proof The X Factor Is Worthless - Same Difference Dropped, Avenue Split Posted: 03 Apr 2009 10:23 AM PDT The X Factor, a brilliant television program but absolutely worthless in terms of breaking British music artists. First Leon Jackson got dropped like a smelly pair of underpants, and now Same Difference have suffered the same fate. Oh, and Avenue (?!?) have split up. It was just a couple of weeks ago that we learned that Leon Jackson, who won The X Factor in 2007, had been dropped by his record label. The problem was he just wasn’t very good, despite winning the biggest reality TV show on British television. Now, to add weight to my argument that The X Factor really isn’t doing the British music scene any good, Same Difference, who came third in the same year Jackson won, have also been dropped by SyCo, Simon Cowell’s record label. To be unfair, as is my way, Same Difference should never have been signed in the first place. They are a truly awful duo who played on the popularity of High School Musical amongst tweens to do as well as they did. But it was obviously never going to last. The fact that Simon Cowell took them on, milked their popularity dry, and then spat them out like a piece of chewed-up food makes me almost feel sorry for them. Almost, but not quite. Cowell is a businessman after all. Brilliantly, Same Difference are blaming their failure to set the world alight (their album reached No.23 and their one single reached No.13) on the demise of Woolworths, a British retail chain which closed over Christmas. Clutching at straws perhaps? On the same day, Avenue, a boyband which apparently reached the final 12 of The X Factor 2006 before being disqualified for already having a record deal in place, have split up. The fact that I forgot about them as soon as they left the show should give some clue as to why they got nowhere. For those of you who haven’t a clue what The X Factor is, it’s the British equivalent of American Idol and has so far produced only one true star - Leona Lewis. The rest have either failed completely or are hanging in there by their fingertips.
