Idol Stalker - Watching American Idol

American Idol 8 Disco Week Results Show

Posted: 22 Apr 2009 06:22 PM PDT

The results show from Disco Week on American Idol got underway with a group number choreographed by judge, Paula Abdul.  It felt like something from a dance show because they showed Paula training the contestants.  When the performance was over, Paula was presented with a bouquet of flowers.  It felt a little… strange (?) to me.  What did you think of that?

The eliminations got underway quickly.  Read more about the show after the jump!

Lil Rounds was the first to be sent home tonight in a very quick elimination.  Ryan asked her to go over to the other side of the stage and as soon as she got there, he told her that her journey on the show had ended.  She did a much better job singing "I'm Every Woman" but I still don't think it would have been enough to keep her safe.

Next, Disco legends Harry Wayne "KC" Casey, Thelma Houston and Freda Payne.  I'm going to just to respectfully say that I love the songs but the performances were… interesting.  I'm going to just blame it on the Idol stage curse and call it a night…

Kris Allen was the first person named to the Top 5!  Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey are also safe.  Anoop Desai was named to the bottom three.  Allison Iraheta joined him and I was totally shocked.

David Archuleta sang "Touch My Hand" and he was so energetic and amazing.  I really loved him tonight.  What did you think?

Anoop Desai was eliminated and I'm so sad.  It's not that I don't like Allison but he's got such a good voice but he made some bad song choices.  I hope he has a bright future ahead of him because he's got a great personality and look.

Simon Cowell’s Hilarious Craig Ferguson Appearance

Posted: 22 Apr 2009 10:31 AM PDT

In a hilarious episode of The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson, the talk show host had some crazy things to say when he interviewed American Idol judge, Simon Cowell.  I swear, CBS should consider putting these two on the air together more often because they were so funny.

They talked about a variety of topics including Idol, whether Ryan Seacrest is gay/annoying/farty, etc…, Susan Boyle (Simon said that he knew she was going to be great and Ferguson called him a "lying sack of crap"), whether British people have good hair and more.  It's a hilarious.  Watch the interview:

American Idol 8 Top 7 Disco Week Recap

Posted: 22 Apr 2009 08:42 AM PDT

Last night on American Idol, the Top 7 (again!) sang disco songs in an effort to make it to the Top 5 (two will be eliminated this week).  Some people really turned out a great effort while others missed the mark.

American Idol 8 Top 7 Again

Lil Rounds kicked off the evening with her own rendition of "I'm Every Woman" (Chaka Khan) but the judges were not too fond of her performance.  Some even described it as being all over the place and I have to agree.  I was not overly impressed either.

Kris Allen was next and he chose to sing the Donna Summer classic "She Works Hard for the Money" which really surprised me.  After some strange comments about shopping in the women's section by Paula, it was clear that the judges loved the original arrangement (it did remind me of "Long Train Runnin'" by the Doobie Brothers, though).

Danny Gokey tried to sing "September" (Earth, Wind and Fire) all the way to church and he almost got there.  The singing was really good but I think most of the judges agree that Danny needs to break out, take some risks and become more original.

Allison Iraheta took on "Hot Stuff" (Donna Summer) which I consider one of the more cliché disco songs out there.  It's been in a million commercials and I just would not have picked it.  She tried a different arrangement on it but not all of the judges liked it.  Still, Simon said it was brilliant considering her age and the genre.

Adam Lambert might have been the most surprising with his version of "If I Can't Have You" (Bee Gees) from the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack.  I think everyone was expecting him to jump out of a cake wearing leg warmers or something but he, again, proved to be unpredictable and the judges loved it.

In contrast, Matt Giraud picked the most predictable and obvious song for Disco Week and it wasn't even that good.  He sang the Bee Gee's iconic track "Stayin' Alive" and, like Simon, I thought it sounded desperate and corny.  Matt can sing but he needs to take it down a notch.

Anoop Desai, sporting brand new facial hair and a bright pink sweater, closed the show with his rendition of Donna Summer's "Dim All The Lights" and it was not his best performance, in my opinion, and Simon agreed with me.  The other judges seemed to enjoy it though.
