Kanye West, & Spike Jonze Team Up For Short Film Posted: 02 Apr 2009 02:58 PM PDT Kayne West and Spike JonzeKanye West has reported teamed up with director Spike Jonze for an upcoming "short film," said a report from MTV. Last time the pair hooked up, fans saw Kanye West stuffed into a trunk by a smoking video vixen by the name of Rita G, for the video of West's single "Flashing Lights." This time around, West enlisted Spike for a video for "See You In My Nightmares." Well, maybe not. According to Spike's partner, the pair has done a "short film," but it's not necessarily a music video? "They've teamed up again, but this time, it's for a short film," Vincent Landay, Jonze's producing partner, told MTV News. "It's not necessarily [a video for 'Nightmares'], but the song is featured in it. We're still editing it right now, it's probably going to run between 10-15 minutes. ... Essentially, we've been editing it whenever we had time -- it'll be a couple of weeks on and then a couple of weeks off. ... Nobody's making any money on it, so it's sort of like, 'Hey, let's get in there and edit on night and weekends.' " Landay went on to tell MTV that the project was shot over the course of two days in Los Angeles, back in January. However, he says there's no current release date for the short. At press time, it's unclear of "Nightmares" will be the official third single from West's 808s and Heartbreak. Stay tuned for updates.

Pitbull Signs Deal With Polo Grounds/ RCA Posted: 02 Apr 2009 02:50 PM PDT ![]() As his two singles -- "Krazy" and "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" -- gain steam on radio and the charts, rapper Pitbull announces a new record deal, after becoming a free agent last year. He has inked a deal with Polo Grounds Music/RCA Music Group for his own Mr. 305, Inc imprint, where he will release music, set up tours, and explore branding opportunities. According to Pitbull, he was weary about signing with a major label, after going through problems with TVT. But, he came to his senses, thanks to industry vet Bryan Leach. "Being an artist who comes from an independent mindset, I was skeptical about signing with a major label," Pitbull admits. "But being that Bryan Leach and I have shared success in the past, combined with the fact that we both come from the TVT school of hard knocks, I know that Polo Grounds and RCA/Jive Label Group will be the perfect fit for 'Mr. 305'. Barry Weiss' success with that same indie spirit only reinforces what I know -- we're about to make history." "Being able to be a part of Pitbull's career again after signing him to TVT Records six years ago is amazing," said Polo Grounds Music President Bryan Leach. "Being able to do this under Polo Grounds Music is even more satisfying. Pitbull's work ethic is like no other -- he and his team prove that it's still about making music, taking chances and having fun." "Pitbull has been grinding for years and with such great visibility with the 'I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)' and 'Blanco' singles, now is the time to fully maximize his career," added Barry Weiss, Chairman and CEO, RCA/Jive Label Group. Pitbull's current Ultra Records single "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" is presently no. 13 on the Rhythm charts and is the follow-up to his hit single "Krazy," which featured Lil Jon, and went on to sell 700,000 downloads. The rapper's digital download success just earned him a nomination in the upcoming Billboard Latin Music Awards in the newly created category: "Latin Digital Download Artist of the Year." While ascending the charts with one smash single, Pitbull has another hit in the works -- the recently released "Blanco" featuring Pharrell, is the first single from the original motion picture soundtrack for "Fast & Furious 4", released March 31st. Its video premieres this week. His forthcoming album is still untitled. Stay tuned for details.

Posted: 01 Apr 2009 10:46 PM PDT ![]() "The rock shit just comes from what my life is now," Wayne, 26, says. "I've grown into this person." He released his first album, 1999's Tha Block Is Hot, when he was only 17, and built his name on being the busiest rapper in the game, dropping a relentless stream of mixtapes and cameos. But aside from plucking at electric guitars onstage and in videos, Weezy never let on that his rap career could take such a significant detour. Describing a wild night when he woke up in bed with three or four women he couldn't name, Wayne reveals he had an epiphany. "I just got — I'm not going to say 'so good' at what I was doing, but it became such a regularity for me that I got tired of it. And then I said, 'You know what? I'm not going to rap on this one.' " Binelli follows Wayne from his posh Atlanta apartment to a club showcase where the MC checks out talent for his Young Money imprint to the studio — Wayne's home away from home — where the superstar puffs his ever-present blunts and plays some Rebirth songs that recall vintage Beastie Boys and current emo, topped by Weezy's Auto Tuned warbling. Wayne tells Binelli he knew he didn't have raw vocal talent, but he dedicated himself to learning how to make his singing voice sound good on record. "I don't want to be the best rapper in the world. Not now," he says. "I want to be the best. Period. Now. My favorite rapper hasn't done what I'm doing." Get the full story in Rolling Stone's Issue 1076, on sale this week.
