New Gorillaz Album In 2010 - Damon Albarn Writing Tracks But Busy With Blur Reunion Posted: 15 May 2009 12:01 PM PDT Gorillaz may only be a cartoon band at heart but they were absolutely huge on both sides of the Atlantic and around the world a years ago. Then Damon Albarn and his fellow collaborators decided to call it day and go off and do other stuff. This means we haven’t had a new Gorillaz album since Demon Days was released way back in 2005. But fans of the animated satirical anti-band won’t have to wait much longer for new material, with the third album due for release in 2010. The source of this unofficial announcement is Albarn’s manager Chris Morrison, who revealed that his client already has around two album’s worth of material written but is rather busy at the moment with other commitments to fully pledge himself to recording the new album. He told BBC6 Music:
Albarn is, of course, busy with the Blur reunion at present, but ever the workaholic he seems keen to get on with the Gorillaz project sooner rather than later. Albarn clearly knows how to write a tune but even someone as naturally gifted as the Blur front man needs time to craft his art. I do wonder how happy Albarn will be at hearing his manager talk about a future release on his behalf. Although Albarn’s music is the starting point for Gorillaz there is also the question of the artwork by Jamie Hewlett, quite important for a cartoon band. I’m a big fan of both the previous Gorillaz albums and I know I’m not alone. They combine rock and dance elements superbly well and inhabit a genre all of their own. So I can’t wait for the new album to drop. Roll on 2010. [Photo Source: Newscom] Tags: BBC6 Music, Blur, Brit, British, Damon-Albarn, Demon Days, Gorillaz, Jamie Hewlett, Monkey, UK |
