Surprise Surprise, Winehouse Cancels Gig Posted: 23 May 2009 10:52 AM PDT Booking tickets for an Amy Winehouse gig is becoming increasingly like playing the lottery. You pay your money, get your little slip of paper, and then anxiously wait to see the outcome. Unfortunately these days you’ll likely to be bitterly disappointed. There’s a very real chance Winehouse will either pull the gig or not turn up. And even if she does manage to find her way to the venue she could then give a performance which leaves you and the rest of the crowd mystified and miffed. Winehouse has had some time away from the spotlight recently, having a break from gigging to spend some time in her new adopted home of St. Lucia. But she’s due to start touring again very soon and would seem to need rehearsal time. Earlier this month Winehouse took to the stage for her comeback performance at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival. She wasn’t really up to scratch and the gig was prematurely ended when rain stopped play. Now comes news from the NME that Winehouse has canceled her next scheduled gig, a Shepherd’s Bush Empire gig to celebrate Island Records’ 50th birthday. No reason was given for the cancellation but full refunds are now being offered. It seems as though another day equals another mini-disaster in the world of Amy Winehouse. If I were one of the thousands of people who have bought tickets for Winehouse’ upcoming UK tour I’d be very worried right now. The chances are they’ll either be canceled or just not very good.
