| Free Stuff Friday: Win Girl in a Coma’s sophomore album “Trio B.C” Posted: 22 May 2009 08:45 AM PDT On June 2nd, Texas all-girl rawk trio Girl In A Coma are releasing their with their sophomore album, Trio B.C., on Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records label. If you’ve got the approval of rock legend Joan Jett, not to mention the like of Morrissey and Cyndi Lauper, with both of whom these ladies have toured, you know you’re on to sometime. Well, Girl In A Coma is definitely onto something with their follow-up to 2007’s Both Before I’m Gone, and we’ve got a vinyl copy to give away! Trio B.C. kicks off with “BB”, a fuzzed out musically jaunty tune overlain with front woman Nina Diaz’s sultry vocals that suddenly explodes as clarity is restored, showcasing Diaz’s guitar licks. Phanie Diaz, Nina’s older sister, plays drums while friend Jenn Alva fills out the rhythm section on bass. Phanie’s skills come to the forefront on “Static Mind” as she runs amok across the kit, generous with the cymbal crashes. The hard rocking, fast-paced “Baby Boy” is followed by the slow tempo “El Monte”, in which Nina sings of a wanting to marry a man whom she thinks may just see her as “another score.” “In The Day” kicks off a retro dance party full of delightful pop sensibilities — definitely to be earmarked as a radio hit as its wildly lilting surface distracts from its complete lack of meaning as Nina repeats, “In the day, oh, in the day, oh, in the day, oh, in the day.” Trio B.C. is a rather eclectic album, making a strong impression for a sophomore effort. If their early success is any indication — Joan Jett signed them on the spot; debut single, “Clumsy Sky”, from Both Before I’m Gone, won a 2007 Independent Music Award; the album debuted on the Billboard Heatseekers chart at #23 and at #6 on the iTunes rock chart. | Win tickets to Santana’s Hard Rock Las Vegas residency Posted: 22 May 2009 04:06 AM PDT The legendary Carlos Santana will begin two residencies at Las Vegas’ The New Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. The residency begins at the end of the month and runs through the middle of June. We’ve got 1 pair of tickets to give away to the last show of the first residency on June 14th. If you don’t want to leave it up to chance, buy your tickets here. The second residency begins at the end of August and runs through mid-September. Santana’s time at the New Joint marks the venue’s first rock and roll residency, a wonderful honor for such an amazing and accomplished musician.
