Mani: The Key To Stone Roses Reunion - Bags Of Cash

Posted: 09 Jun 2009 03:33 PM PDT

The Stone Roses will they/won’t they reunion talk is starting to drag on almost as much as the Led Zeppelin will they/won’t they reunion talk. And as I sit here right now I’m convinced neither are ever going to happen. However, Stone Roses bassist Mani thinks there may be one chance left to reunite the whole band - offer a shed load of money.

The Complete Stone Roses

Ian Brown has said time and time again that he will never be party to a Stone Roses reunion. The last time he stated this was in March after a British tabloid newspaper claimed the band were set to stage a full UK tour. John Squire is the same, and he also came out of the woodwork in March to deny the story and insist it was never going to happen.

So surely that’s the end of it. Game over. Brown and Squire are the reason the Stone Roses split up after just two studio albums and if those two have moved on to pastures new, never to look back, then that’s it. Especially as Brown is the singer who gave the band that distinctive sound and Squire is the man who wrote all the hits. Without them the Stone Rose don’t exist.

But one man seems to see things differently. Mani, now with Primal Scream. Sure, he no doubt realizes that Brown and Squire need to be on board but he refuses to believe them when they say it’s never going to happen. Every months he seems to pop up in a newspaper or in a magazine and states his belief that a Stone Rose reunion could still happen.

His latest bout of wishful thinking comes in an interview with The Sun. He told the newspaper:

“Ian and John have to get it sorted out and take it from there.”

“For all the morals and principles that people have, you wave f***ing £20million in front of somebody and they change their mind. You’ll see how their philosophies soon change.”

“John Squire always said he’d never sell out for the money. If he considers it selling it out that’s fine, it’s alright for people who’ve earned millions off the royalties. But morals and principles don’t put food on the table though, do they?”

I can see Mani’s point about royalties because while he only earned money while he was in the band and they were active, Squire has obviously made money ever since then. But then why would Squire ever want to reform the Stone Roses, no matter how much money is placed in front of him? Especially as he’d have to make up with Brown in order to make it happen.
