She Plays Music’s Hot Tracks for Summer 2009

Women in music are proving that they are a force to be reckoned with this year and if you're looking at creating a playlist that is fueled by female artists, I'd like to share some of my picks.  I know that not all of these are all-girl bands but a strong female lead singer makes all the difference!

black eyed peas boom boom pow The Black Eyed Peas are enjoying a lot of success right now and, at the time of this writing, their two most recent singles "Boom Boom Pow" and "I Gotta Feeling" are sitting on the #1 and #2 spots on Billboard's Hot 100.  I wasn't even sure I was a huge fan of the Peas' new sound but I just can't resist singing along with Fergie as she says "I'm so 3008, you're so 2000 and late."

Katy Perry continues to dominate the charts with her latest effort "Waking Up In Vegas."   Sure, I don't think it's quite as infectious as "I Kissed a Girl" or "Hot and Cold" but why not add all three to your playlist?

You might not have heard of the Paradiso Girls

Of course, you can't go wrong with Lady Gaga this summer.  While "Paparazzi" is her newest release, you have to include her other singles like "LoveGame," "Poker Face" and "Just Dance."  Even if you aren't a huge fan of her music (like me), the beat is infectious and you can't resist singing along to the hooks!

Beyoncé also has a lot of great tracks to choose from.  While you can definitely include some of her older material, "Single Ladies," "Halo" and "Ego" are great new tracks to sing along to this summer.

britney spears circus Two women in music have launched some major comebacks after struggling in recent years.  Britney Spears returned to the chart with huge hits like "Womanizer" "Circus" (my favorite!) and "If You Seek Amy."  Similarly, Kelly Clarkson has gone back to her pop roots with great songs including "My Life Would Suck Without you" and "I Do Not Hook Up."

There are so many more that I could never list them all (share yours in the comments!) but here are some other tracks you might consider adding to your summer playlist:

  • Pink - Please Don't Leave Me
  • Ciara w/Justin Timberlake -  Love Sex Magic
  • Lady Antebellum - I Run To You
  • Taylor Swift - Love Story, You Belong With Me
  • Jordin Sparks – Battlefield
  • Kellie Pickler  - Best Days of Your Life, Don't You Know You're Beautiful
  • Charice - Note To God
  • Keri Hilson Featuring Kanye West & Ne-Yo - Knock You Down
