Oasis’ Liam Gallagher Loses Mind During iTunes Live Gig Posted: 22 Jul 2009 10:49 AM PDT You can tell when all is not well with Oasis because I write about them a hell of a lot more than usual. I like to call this ‘Amy Winehouse syndrome’, where the more messed up an artist is the more column inches they warrant. Which is a sad state of affairs really but people would rather read about things going wrong than them going right these days, and who am I to deny people what they want? No one, exactly. In the last few months we’ve seen Oasis have a big bust-up on tour, with Noel and Liam Gallagher seeming to hate each other more by the day. We’ve seen Liam concerned that Noel Gallagher is going to leave Oasis to do a solo project. Oasis then had to pay out £1 million in refunds after technical difficulties blighted their homecoming shows, although Noel was none too happy that people accepted the refund. Now, according to the NME, Liam has lost it on stage during an iTunes Live gig. The Oasis gig took place last night (July 21) and it was only noteworthy for the fact that Liam seemed to turn into even more or a moody git than normal. He immediately claimed someone had throw something at him and spent the rest of the gig whining and threatening the audience.
Throughout the gig, he randomly said:
The “monkeys on crack” line is pure class and it was in reference to the fact this was a free gig for iTunesLive competition winners. While the Power Failure song title was inspired by the recent run of technical problems the band have experienced, not only in Manchester but also at Wembley Stadium and at the Benicassim festival. Noel was said to be both amused and embarrassed by Liam’s on-stage rants, and has already published a blog post on Oasisinet talking about the gig. He claims it was “pretend rage” but that the audience seemed to enjoy it so what the hell. Noel wrote:
Liam can be a prize prat at times, and this in one of those occasions in my opinion. But while many people seem to agree with that way of thinking, others have expressed their delight that a rock star is finally acting like a rock star: moody, surly, and like he doesn’t want to be there. That may well be the case but Liam showed a distinct lack of respect for the crowd at the gig, who are the very people that have afforded him the lifestyle he enjoys.
