Mariah Carey Will Perform at Michael Jackson’s Memorial

Posted: 06 Jul 2009 10:43 AM PDT

I didn't realize that stars were being rounded up to perform at Michael Jackson's memorial service tomorrow Apollo Theater Anniversary Gala(if you can't attend, it will be televised) but it makes sense.

I hadn't really thought past the fact that he died, it's still a shock, but this bit of news is very sweet.

Mariah Carey will perform the Jackson 5 classic "I’ll Be There" which is fitting since her cover of the song on MTV’s Unplugged back in 1992 really helped her career get off the ground.

I think it was such a huge success because older fans recognized the hit from the 1970s and younger fans appreciated what a great song it truly is.  I don't know if Trey Lorenz will be joining her (he performed with her on Unplugged) but I'm sure she can handle it all by herself.

The song is so emotional and the lyrics are incredibly appropriate so I'm sure there won't be a dry eye in the house when she takes the stage.  I plan to watch it on TV and I know I'll definitely be crying.

New MP3 Download: Colbie Caillat “Fallin’ For You”

Posted: 06 Jul 2009 10:29 AM PDT

In a world filled with cluttered, overly digitized songs, it is refreshing to hear Colbie Caillat's clean vocals, sweet lyrics and "feel good" chords.  It's like organic food for your ears.

Colbie CaillatThe 24-year-old shot to fame with her single "Bubbly" and now she's dropping her sophomore album, Breakthrough, on August 25, 2009.  The first single, "Fallin' For You" is now available for download and I highly recommend it.

It might not be as catching as "Bubbly" but it definitely showcases her talent and I think it's a great summer song for a nice lazy afternoon in the backyard or driving along the countryside.

I love all types of music and sometimes you really want something with a hard beat and autotuned vocals but, for those times when you need to cleanse your musical palate, artists like Colbie Caillat are perfect!

Have a listen and tell me what you think!

Madonna Honors Michael Jackson at London Concert

Posted: 06 Jul 2009 10:11 AM PDT

When Michael Jackson died tragically almost two weeks ago, he was preparing for "This is It" comeback tour at London's O2 Arena.  It was rumored to be his biggest production yet (possibly the biggest show any performer has ever delivered) and I'm saddened that we will never know what he was going to do.

Madonna Sticky And Sweet Tour

Madonna has openly grieved the King of Pop and I can understand the connection.  They really became superstars around the same time (I'm referring to Michael's solo career and not his time spent with the Jackson 5) and they really shaped music from the early 80s up until today.  He really was like her male counterpart in terms of popularity and uniqueness so I'm not surprised that it hit her hard.  When he died, she issued the following statement:  "I can't stop crying over the sad news.  I have always admired Michael Jackson. The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever! My heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family. God bless."

During the opening night (July 4, 2009) of her own concerts (on the very same stage where Michael Jackson would have performed his tour), Madonna paid tribute to him.   His picture was displayed on a big screen above the stage as she sang "Holiday" while a Michael Jackson impersonator danced.  The crowd erupted into cheers when the music changed over to Jackson's classic hits "Billie Jean" and "Wanna Be Starting Something."

It was brief but respectful and touching.  Madonna told the crowd "Let’s give it up for one of the greatest artists the world has ever known.  Michael Jackson – long, live the King"  Amazing!  Watch the video:
