Lily Allen Debuts Music Video and Lyrics For “22”

Have you heard Lily Allen's new song "22"?  It's from her It's Not Me, It's You album (which debuted on February 10, 2009) and I love it!  The lyrics crack me up because I'm just around the 30 year old mark and lily allen it's not me it's youI'm constantly confused by some of my friends (and family members) who are getting older but still act like they are 22!   I realize that you don't need to stop having a life as you age but there is a point where partying stops being cute.  I like the video and I think it's genius that she looks like a hot mess at almost 30 and she sees her sleek, attractive younger self in the mirror in a club's bathroom.

The words point out all of the things that she's missing in her life.  For example, she says that she wants a boyfriend but only gets one night stands and that she's got an alright job but it's not a career.  Clearly, she feels like she's not where she needs to be in life but is that completely because of how she feels about herself is it because  "society says her life is already over"?

It's really intriguing since I do believe that once women get past a certain age, they depreciated in value and attractiveness.  Is that because of their own jaded attitudes or the societal expectations we all subscribe to?  It's funny that when men have a mid-life crisis, they seem to head straight for the really young women (just look at Jon Gosselin of Jon and Kate Plus 8 – the divorce isn't even close to being final but he has been spotted vacationing with his new 22-year-old girlfriend!).

Anyway, this could be a great conversation starter or even a wake-up call for the women out there who need to get out of the clubs and start living their lives to the fullest!

Check out the lyrics to "22" – I love them!

When she was 22 the future looked bright
But she’s nearly 30 now and she’s out every night
I see that look in her face she’s got that look in her eye
She’s thinking how did I get here and wondering why
It’s sad but it’s true how society says
Her life is already over
There’s nothing to do and there’s nothing to say
Til the man of her dreams comes along picks her up and puts her over his shoulder
It seems so unlikely in this day and age
She’s got an alright job but it’s not a career
Wherever she thinks about it, it brings her to tears
Cause all she wants is a boyfriend
She gets one-night stands
She’s thinking how did I get here
I’m doing all that I can
It’s sad but it’s true how society says
Her life is already over
There’s nothing to do and there’s nothing to say
Til the man of her dreams comes along picks her up and puts her over his shoulder
It seems so unlikely in this day and age
It’s sad but it’s true how society says
Her life is already over
There’s nothing to do and there’s nothing to say
Til the man of her dreams comes along picks her up and puts her over his shoulder
It seems so unlikely in this day and age
