New Whitney Houston Album Cover Revealed

Posted: 15 Jul 2009 03:17 PM PDT

The cover for Whitney Houston's upcoming album, I Look To You, has been revealed and I'd love to know what you think!   I know that she looks a heck of a lot better than she has in maybe a decade (she still didn't whitney houston I look to you coverlook right to me back when she released Just Whitney in 2002).  Granted, I don't love the facial expression but I'm not going to get picky with Ms. Houston!

Can I take a minute to commend this woman?  So many people are content to fade away and even give up when they go through some seriously bad times.  She has made some very public mistakes and yet, here she is, looking amazing!

I think that's what that single "I Didn't Know My Own Strength" was meant to be about.  So many people focused on whether her voice sounded as good as it used to but the real beauty is in those lyrics.

I'm looking forward to the release of I Look To You.  It becomes available on September 1, 2009.

Mariah Carey Video For “Obsessed” – I Know What’s Wrong With It!

Posted: 15 Jul 2009 11:46 AM PDT

Before you watch the video, I've got to say that, aside from the super simple vocals and melody of this song (she's so much better than this!) I couldn't figure out what else was bothering me about Mariah Carey's  new single "Obsessed."  It hit me when I watched this silly music video – since the beginning of her career, mariah-carey-obsessed-coverMariah has been the stalker.  She's been the one who would do anything for love and couldn't let go and all of a sudden, she's the one being pursued.  I'm just not used to seeing her on this side of her lyrics, know what I mean?  Need evidence?  Here are a few examples off the top of my head.

  • "Can't Let Go" (1991) - "Even though I try, I can't let go.  'Cause something in your eyes captured my soul."
  • "Dreamlover" (1993) - "Dreamlover come rescue me.  Take me up, take me down, take me anywhere you want to baby now.  I need you so desperately.  Won’t you please come around ’cause I wanna share forever with you baby"
  • "Without You" (1994) – I know she didn't write this song but she chose to cover it. "I can't live, if living is without you."  Pretty self-explanatory…
  • "Always Be My Baby" (1996) - "You'll always be a part of me.  I'm part of you indefinitely.  Boy, don't you know you can't escape me, ooh darlin' 'cause you'll always be my baby."
  • "Honey" (1997) - "Honey you can have me when you want me, if you simply ask me to be there.  You're the only one who makes me come running.  'Cause what you've got is far beyond compare."  "Ooh baby I've got a dependency.  Always strung out for another taste of your honey."
  • "Breakdown" (1998) - "Well I guess I'm trying to be nonchalant about it and I'm going to extremes to prove I'm find without ya.  But in reality I'm slowly losing my mind underneath a guise of a smile gradually I'm dying inside."
  • "My All" (1998) - "I'd give my all to have just one more night with you.  I'd risk my life to feel your body next to mine 'cause I can't go on livin' in the memory of our song."
  • "Heartbreaker" (1999) – After she says "gimme your love" about a million times, she says "Oh your love's so good, I don't wanna let go and although I should I can't leave you alone…" Hell, even Jay-Z makes an appearance and raps about her possessiveness in this one!
  • "We Belong Together" (2004) - "When you left I lost a part of me, it's still so hard to believe.  Come back baby please 'cause we belong together."

Anyway, I could probably go on forever.  Do you have some examples?  Leave them in the comments!
