The Top-Earning Young Women in Music

Posted: 29 Jul 2009 02:24 PM PDT

Forbes has released their "Top-Earning Young Musicians" (under 30 years of age) list and I'm thrilled to see so many young women on the list!  In fact, they actually dominated the list!

  1. Beyoncé Knowles - $87 million
  2. Britney Spears - $35 million
  3. Miley Cyrus - $25 million
  4. Jessica Simpson - $20 million
  5. Taylor Swift - $18 million
  6. Rihanna - $15 million
  7. Carrie Underwood - $14 million

I'm not surprised at all by this!  Okay, maybe Jessica Simpson surprised me a little but the others make a lot of sense.  Beyoncé's song and video for "Single Ladies" (from her I Am… Sasha Fierce album) became a massive hit.  Britney Spears launched perhaps the biggest and best comeback in history with her Circus Tour and album.  The machine known as Miley Cyrus continues to pull in the money of tweens everywhere with her Hannah Montana show, merchandise, movie and music (not to mention Miley's own stuff).  Fellow teenager, Taylor Swift, has written some incredibly catchy music including "Love Story" (from her Fearless album) which got stuck in my head for months.  Aside from being a very public victim of domestic violence, Rihanna has produced some huge hits from "Umbrella" to "Disturbia."  American Idol winner, Carrie Underwood, deserves to really be on this list although I'm surprised that she didn't pull in even more revenue.  She's one about a million awards and some of her songs like "Before He Cheats" from her album Some Hearts, are already legendary.

Ashley Tisdale Performs New Single on The View

Posted: 29 Jul 2009 02:04 PM PDT

Ashley Tisdale was on The View this morning where she performed her new single "It's Alright, It's OK" from her Guilty Pleasure album which was released yesterday.

It was a fairly decent performance and I'm happy that Ashley is trying to put a lot of energy into it but someone needs to put a stop to the over-the-top stage presence on songs that aren't all that difficult to sing.  She's not the only perpetrator of the crime but I really hope that some stylist or manager has the courage to finally say "hey, get excited during your performance but please don't pretend you're singing the most difficult thing in the world – no need to squat to get those notes out so don't do it anymore."  Done.  Hmmm, maybe I'll write a post about that.

Anyway, The View host (and expectant mother) Elisabeth Hasselbeck also brought up the fact that Ashley's new movie, Aliens in the Attic,  comes out this Friday – don't forget Ashley fans!
