Oasis Split! – Noel Gallagher Quits Oasis After Liam Fight Posted: 28 Aug 2009 05:58 PM PDT Oasis have split up, with Noel Gallagher declaring he had left the group in an official statement issued to the press. The Manchester band were due to perform Rock en Seine festival in Paris tonight (Aug. 28) but canceled just before they were due on stage. There has been speculation as to what sort of state the band were in for weeks now. Noel and Liam have been having a very public war of words in that time, but it wasn’t known whether this was just their normal brotherly love/hate relationship or something a little more serious. Last weekend saw the band cancel their appearance at the V Festival, and that led to speculation that it was all over. But Liam Gallagher denied the claims, and just yesterday Natalie Appleton (formerly with the All Saints and sister of Liam’s wife Nicole) claimed “Oasis will die before they split up.” It appears you were wrong on that score Natalie.
According to The Times, Bloc Party, who were on stage before Oasis tonight, announced the band would not be appearing. Amy Macdonald, who was also appearing at the festival, wrote on her Twitter page, "Oasis canceled again with one minute to stage time! Liam smashed Noel's guitar, huuuge fight!" Noel then issued a statement on the band’s official Web site saying:
So it appears Noel is out, having finally reached the end of his tether in dealing with his brother Liam. However, there is always a chance of a resolution between the two and Noel deciding he acted too quickly. And if not then there’s also a chance Oasis could carry on without Noel. Although he was the main songwriter, Liam, Gem Archer, and Andy Bell all wrote songs for the last album. I doubt this story is done and dusted but for now at least it looks as though Oasis have split. I never thought I’d see the day. And it’s a sad occasion.
