Oasis Break Up | Noel Gallagher Explains Reasons For Leaving While His Mum Refuses To Believe It’s Over

If you haven’t already heard the news, Noel Gallagher has left Oasis, leaving his and the band’s futures in question. When the news broke on Friday evening few details were known about how the split had occurred, but things have become a little clearer over the weekend.

Noel Gallagher announced he had quit Oasis on Friday night after having an altercation with his brother Liam just minutes before the band were due on stage at the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. Oasis ended up not performing and that could be the last act of this once-great rock ‘n’ roll band.

Details of the fight between the Gallagher brothers have emerged. It’s thought Liam smashed a guitar and disowned Noel as his brother. Reports also suggest that things got so out of hand and violent that an ambulance was called at one point in proceedings.

The Gallagher brothers’ mum Peggy refuses to believe this is the end of Oasis, telling The Sunday Mirror:

“They do love each other, but they've always been very different. The funny thing is, they didn't fight as children. They didn't fight until they started the band. I hope this isn't the end of Oasis. I don't think it is. They're just tired at the end of the tour. They've had fights before and got over it.”

But Noel has confirmed he isn’t about to take back his decision to leave Oasis, issuing a new, longer statement on the band’s official Web site this morning explaining the reasons for his departure and bidding a fond farewell to the millions of Oasis fans. He said:

“Dearly beloved, it is with a heavy heart and a sad face that I say this to you this morning. As of last Friday, August 28, I have been forced to leave the Manchester rock ‘n’ roll pop group Oasis.”

“The details are not important and of too great a number to list. But I feel you have the right to know that the level of verbal and violent intimidation towards me, my family, friends and comrades has become intolerable. And the lack of support and understanding from my management and bandmates has left me with no other option than to get me cape and seek pastures new.”

“I would like firstly to offer my apologies to them kids in Paris who’d paid money and waited all day to see us only to be let down AGAIN by the band. Apologies are probably not enough, I know, but I’m afraid it’s all I’ve got. While I’m on the subject, I’d like to say [sorry] to the good people of V Festival that experienced the same thing. Again, I can only apologize – although I don’t know why, it was nothing to do with me. I was match-fit and ready to be brilliant. Alas, other people in the group weren’t up to it.”

“In closing I would like to thank all the Oasis fans, all over the world. The last 18 years have been truly, truly amazing (and I hate that word, but today is the one time I’ll deem it appropriate). A dream come true. I take with me glorious memories. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a family and a football team to indulge. I’ll see you somewhere down the road. It’s been a fuckin’ pleasure.”

It’s pretty clear Noel has left Oasis and isn’t going back. It seems likely Noel will now take a holiday, regroup, and then set about recording and releasing the solo album he has been talking about for years.

Meanwhile, until someone state otherwise it appears Oasis still exist, with Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer, and Andy Bell still together. Liam has always insisted Oasis would continue on regardless and maybe this is his time to shine and write the majority of the songs in Noel’s absence.
