Miley Cyrus Pole Dances on Award Show

I'm no prude but did any of you happen to catch Miley Cyrus' performance on the 2009 Teen Choice Awards last night?  I seriously was in shock.  I know that Miley's life has been surrounded by increasing controversy in this past year or so whether it be over her racy Vanity Fair photoshoot or her must older boyfriend but I really dismissed all of that.  I try not to be a judgmental person – we don't know the circumstances around some of these rumors so why should we say anything?  Besides, my kids love Hannah Montana and the kid's a Disney star afterall.

For the first time, last night, I was kinda grossed out.  My eyes popped out of my head a little when she came out on stage in shorts that more closely resembled a pair of boy-cut panties but I reminded myself that some of my clothes were considered risqué back in the day.  Then she started dancing suggestively and, again, I gave her the benefit of the doubt but when she reached up and grabbed her very own pole, I drew the line. 

Yes, Miley is getting older but she's still 16 and this was the TEEN CHOICE AWARDS!  If she did this at, I don't know, the American Music Awards or something like that, it might have raised a few eyebrows but it would have been a drop in the bucket compared to some of the other acts.  It's a different story all together, though, when even the Black Eyed Peas cleaned up their act (almost to the point of ridiculousness) and Disney's golden child is writhing around on stage.  Again, I'm no prude but come on.

What did you think?  Do you feel that her performance was appropriate for this particular event?  I'm not asking if it was good because I think she sang pretty well and her tribute to Michael Jackson was nice but I just was surprised by her dance moves for the TCAs.
