Tori Amos Doesn’t Think Lady Gaga Will Last

Tori Amos is one of my favorite artists from the past 15-20 years.  She's original, doesn't resort to gimmicks for attention and, best of all, she's incredibly talented and outspoken.  According to The Sun, the fiery redhead had some thoughts on the suddenly popularity of Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga

"[GaGa] She’s what I call a meteor – singers who entertain people for a while. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with that," Amos said. "But then there are people like Neil Young who show up at Glastonbury 40 years into their career. And that’s a very different kind of artist.  The question is, will Lady GaGa be playing alongside Neil Young at Glastonbury in 20 years time?  She wants to entertain people. Right now, half the world is depressed and they need to be entertained. So her timing’s perfect."

I know that some people will argue against Tori's logic and defend Gaga but the truth is that I think she's got a point and I believe it can be applied to the career of Katy Perry as well.  I recently interviewed some people from Rotten Tomatoes about summer blockbusters and they predicted that Terminator: Salvation wasn't going to do as well as some people hoped because it was too depressing for viewers in these hard economic times.  I was skeptical but, when the movie came out, they ended up being right.

We are all going through hard times as individuals, in our respective nations and also as a global society.  No one wants to be thinking about all our troubles all the time so when a song like "Just Dance" comes on, it makes sense that people will be drawn to its simplicity and "let loose" kinda vibe.  You know what I mean?
