Michael Jackson Tribute Concert In London During June 2010

Posted: 11 Sep 2009 07:00 PM PDT

Lest we forget that Michael Jackson passed away while preparing for a huge sold-out run of gigs at the O2 Arena in London. His death meant millions of fans were denied the opportunity to see the King of Pop perform live once more. So it’s rather fitting to hear that the Michael Jackson tribute concert is switching from Vienna to London.

I’ll be honest and admit I was unsure about Jackson’s return to performing live. I certainly wasn’t going to buy tickets for the O2 Arena residency despite being a fan of his music. But I know many people who were going, and who were distraught to hear Jackson had died.

Jackson’s family has since endeavored to organize a tribute concert for Michael Jackson. The date was set as Sept. 26, and Jermaine Jackson promised the world that the greatest singer and performers would be there to put on a show for the fans and pay tribute to Michael at the same time.

But it wasn’t to be, with the Vienna tribute concert now having been canceled due to a lack of performers willing and able to take part. Mary J. Blige and Chris Brown were supposed confirmed headliners yet both pulled out due to other commitments.

So the Michael Jackson tribute concert has now been hastily rearranged for June 2010 and will be held at Wembley Stadium in London instead. This gives the organizers more time to secure performers, the promoters more time to advertise, and the people who missed out on the canceled O2 Arena gigs a second chance.

Robbie Williams – ‘Bodies’ Music Video Review

Posted: 11 Sep 2009 11:33 AM PDT

Despite continued rumors that Robbie Williams is on the verge of rejoining Take That, he’s still currently a solo artist. One who has something to prove after his last album, Rudebox, wholly failed to set the world alight. Reality Killed The Video Star isn’t released until November but it’s been preceded by the release of a new single titled Bodies.

Robbie Williams Reality Killed The Video Star

I personally feel this is make or break for Robbie. Sure, this single and album are going to sell regardless. Williams has got a large and loyal enough fan base that any old crap would sell, but if he’s not happy, and if the critics aren’t keen, a Take That reunion surely beckons.

I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this. It’s slowly growing on me but Robbie’s older stuff, when he shared songwriting duties with Guy Chambers, instantly caught my attention. This doesn’t.

The whole thing feels out of its time, more suited to five years ago. Robbie’s singing style is quite jarring on the ears, more so than it was a few years ago. And the style and swagger Robbie demonstrates in the video also feels old-fashioned and just a little bit lame.

I personally think Robbie Williams is living in too much of a bubble, distanced from the real world to to great a degree to write and record music that resonates with people who don’t live in L.A. luxury, can’t get every woman they desire, and in essence, aren’t Robbie Williams.

For me, this is a fail. Robbie, get on the phone to Gary Barlow and beg for a return to Take That as you need them more than they need you.
