Oasis Make The 2010 Guinness Book of World Records

Posted: 17 Sep 2009 03:22 PM PDT

Noel Gallagher may have left, and the fate of the band may now be both unclear and in the hands of the tempestuous hothead Liam, but Oasis are still making history and scoring victories. On the back of two nominations for Q Awards, Oasis have announced their inclusion in the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records.

With Noel’s departure it was assumed Oasis were no more, but there’s still been no concrete word from Liam and his fellow bandmates as to whether they will continue or not. Meanwhile, everything surrounding the band continues on as if nothing had happened. Liam and Noel having a major ruckus? No mate, you must be imagining things.

Oasis’ inclusion in the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records was announced on their official Web site Oasisinet:

“The band enter the book for the second time by setting the longest Top 10 UK chart run by a group notching up an unprecedented 22 successive Top 10 hits in the UK. Oasis previously entered the record book for being the most successful act of the decade between 1995 and 2005 by spending 765 weeks in the Top 75 singles and albums charts.”

22 successive Top 10 hits is indeed an impressive feat and just shows how big a fan base the band have. It’s even more astonishing when you consider that those 22 in a row include releases from that not-so-impressive part of their career in the middle, after the first two brilliant albums and before their revival with Don’t Believe The Truth.

In a way this brings it home to me quite how big a band Oasis were and potentially still are. Whether Liam and co. can possibly keep Oasis going as strong as they have been down the years remains to be seen. As does whether they will even want to try and whether Noel can make it as a solo artist.

Q Awards 2009 Nominations – Arctic Monkeys & Oasis

Posted: 17 Sep 2009 06:18 AM PDT

The annual Q Awards celebrate the best in popular music with a focus on rock, indie, and alternative music. This year’s ceremony will be held on October 26 at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London.

ARCTIC MONKEYS - ALEX TURNER

The Arctic Monkeys are leading this year’s nominations as they’re up for best live act, best single, best album, and best act in the world today. Oasis are up for two awards despite Noel having left the band and the rest failing to signal their intentions yet as to whether they will carry on as Oasis. So if Liam turns up to accept an award it could be an interesting night.

Q editor-in-chief Paul Rees told Digital Spy:

“The Q Awards prides itself on honouring the best popular music of the year and the 2009 vintage is no exception. Once again the nominations prove that great music continues to be made across a broad range of styles.”
