Kanye West is One Classy Guy

Last night (September 13, 2009) marks a very important milestone in the career of Kanye West. If there is any humanity or intelligence left in this world, it marks the end of his career. This isn’t about anything rock related, but I felt the need to write my thoughts regarding West’s temper tantrum.

In a surprise win, 19 year old Taylor Swift won “Best Female Video” for her song “You Belong to Me” at the MTV VMA Awards. The shock and joy on her face when the announcement was made was sweet and genuine. Swift took the stage to accept her award, and began to speak.

In a stunning display of absolute douchery, Kanye West stormed the stage and took the microphone from a visibly confused Taylor Swift. He stated that Beyonce’s “All the Single Ladies” video of three hot chicks wiggling around was “…one of the best videos of all time”, further confirming my suspicions that Kanye West is a complete moron. Beyonce looked appalled, Swift looked horrified, and Kanye looked like a walking, talking colostomy bag. West then thrust the mic back to Swift before exiting the stage and being escorted out of the VMAs. Taylor Swift attempted to speak, but her time was up and MTV cut her mic to play an amusing skit featuring Tracy Morgan and Eminem.

According to Rolling Stone, Swift was seen immediately afterward sobbing backstage, so it is definitely a good thing that her upcoming performance had been recorded earlier. I don’t know Taylor Swift’s music, but I do know that for a 19 year old girl, winning an award over the likes of Beyonce, Katy Perry, Pink, Lady Gaga and Kelly Clarkson is a major achievement and should have been a cherished moment. Unfortunately, you have to take the selfish dick factor into account when thinking about how things “should have been”, especially during a live telecast. Instead of a young performer having her chance to shine, an egotistical scumbag carelessly stepped on her future memories of the win.

Kanye West later wrote a semi literate apology to Swift on his blog, and you can see how sincere he is by the immediate mention of Beyonce’s video after a half hearted, badly worded “apology”:

“I’m sooooo sorry to Taylor Swift and her fans and her mom. I spoke to her mother right after and she said the same thing my mother would’ve said. She is very talented! I like the lyrics about being a cheerleader and she’s in the bleachers! I’m in the wrong for going on stage and taking away from her moment! Beyonce’s video was the best of this decade!!!! I’m sorry to my fans if I let you guys down!!!! I’m sorry to my friends at MTV. I will apologize to Taylor 2mrw. Welcome to the real world!!!! Everybody wanna booooo me but I’m a fan of real pop culture!!! No disrespect but we watchin’ the show at the crib right now cause … well you know!!!! I’m still happy for Taylor!!!! Boooyaaawwww!!!! You are very very talented!!! I gave my awards to Outkast when they deserved it over me … That’s what it is!!!!!!! I’m not crazy y’all, i’m just real. Sorry for that!!! I really feel bad for Taylor and I’m sincerely sorry!!! Much respect!!!!!”

If someone fluent in dumbass could translate that for me, I would appreciate it.

Luckily, Beyonce came through in the end, showing what a true class act she is. While accepting her award for Video of the Year for “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)”, Beyonce called Taylor up to the stage to finish her acceptance speech, saying:

“This is amazing. I remember being 17 years old, up for my first MTV award with Destiny's Child and it was one of the most exciting moments of my life, so I would like for Taylor to come out and have her moment.”

*Note* This is an editorial, and is not necessarily the opinion of b5media. It is my opinion, however, that Kanye West is a bag of douche.
