Morrissey Collapses On Stage – Rushed To Hospital

Morrissey has had a tumultuous year thanks to an unspecified illness which has seen him cancel several concerts and television appearances. And tonight saw him collapse on stage and rushed to hospital unconscious.

The former Smiths front man was gigging at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon when he suddenly collapsed on stage. He had only been on stage a matter of minutes and was in the middle of opening set song, This Charming Man.

Morrissey is said to have straining to perform, wincing, and struggling to breathe before he eventually capitulated to whatever condition he is suffering from and dropping to the floor. Members of the crew then appeared on stage to help him.

An eye witness present at the gig told The Telegraph:

“The stage went dark and he was taken off the stage and then his band then all left the stage. There was a wait of about 25 minutes before one of the stage crew came on and said Morrissey had left the building, and that he was seriously ill. Everybody started booing, thinking ‘here we go again’. He has a bit of a poor track record for canceling his concerts.”

Wasn’t it a little harsh for the crowd to boo a man who has clearly had an episode of some kind on stage? Being disappointed is one thing but booing a man who is clearly ill yet trying to carry on performing regardless is definitely in bad taste.

A spokesman for the Great Western Ambulance Service said:

"Just after 9pm we got a call to a 50-year-old man who was reported to be reported to be suffering from respiratory problems and was unconscious. We sent a paramedic in a double-crewed ambulance. When they arrived they found a conscious patient who was not feeling well at all. They made an initial assessment and took him to the Great Western Hospital for further assessment."

Morrissey’s condition is now listed as stable although what is actually wrong with him isn’t being widely reported. Morrissey has a number of gigs left on his 2009 U.K. tour but whether he’ll now be able to fulfill that commitment isn’t clear.
