Amy Winehouse’s New Album Could Be Ready In A Month

Posted: 02 Nov 2009 06:35 PM PST

Are we ever going to get our hands on Amy Winehouse’s new album? I’ve personally grown a little bored of waiting but it appears its edging ever closer. At least according to Amy’s father Mitch, who claims the new album is almost ready for release.

It feels like an absolute age since Amy Winehouse released Back To Black and went from being a little-known British singer to a world famous and world-renowned diva. It’s actually only been three years, with the album released in October of 2006.

The problem is it doesn’t appear to be anywhere close to being released. Winehouse has been sidetracked having an extended holiday in St. Lucia, an inspiration for the new album apparently, and been busy helping her Goddaughter Dionne Bromfield record and release her debut album.

But Mitch Winehouse thinks it could be nearer to completion than most of us thought, telling Digital Spy:

“I’ve heard a couple of songs from it. It’s not dissimilar from the second album Back To Black – it’s going to be great. She’s writing all the time and when she’s got the poetry, she can go into the studio and she’s quite capable of doing the album in two weeks. So theoretically she could have the album ready in a month’s time, but it won’t be. When she gets cracking she does it very quickly.”

So, it could be ready in a month’s time but it likely won’t be. I guess this is a good test of how lazy or committed to work Amy Winehouse is – if it’s now another year before its release we’ll know it’s the former.

Spice Girls To Reform For 2012 London Olympics?

Posted: 02 Nov 2009 12:12 PM PST

September saw two of the Spice Girls, in the form of Mel B and Geri Halliwell, teasing that the group could be about to announce plans to get together. Victoria Beckham AKA Posh Spice later denied knowledge of any plans. But Simon Fuller, the man who engineered the Spice Girls’ rise to fame, thinks there could be something in the offing.

Fuller is the former manager of the Spice Girls and current boss of talent agency 19. He thinks the 2012 Olympic Games, due to held in London, would be the perfect venue for the second comeback of the Spice Girls.

He told The Mirror:

“They stand for so much in British music history and I can’t think of a better time for them to get back together for another performance. The demand for them as a band is as strong as ever. I think if they do it, it’s going to be in 2012.”

Would they really be discussing getting back together for the Olympics in 2012 already, in 2009? I doubt it very much. However, if they have been approached to be a part of it then maybe they’ve had an initial discussion about it. Which would explain why Mrs. Beckham isn’t aware of the idea.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the Spice Girls playing some part of the 2012 Olympics. As Fuller says, they are definitely an essential part of the UK, or at least they were when together. The problem is I just know they’d want to make the most of the publicity and release new material and tour on the back of it all. Which, after the last time, fills me with dread.
