Lykke Li: The Superstar You Don’t Know

Posted: 04 Nov 2009 11:08 AM PST

Lykke Li is the quintessential indie darling.  Her EP Youth Novels was released in 2008 and since then she has been generating buzz on the indie scenes in Europe and North America.

But, soon enough Lykke Li will be catapulted into mainstream super stardom.  She has such famous fans as the uber-hot Kings of Leon, who personally approached her to cover their single, Knocked Up and recently collaborated with the Kanye West and other indie darling Santigold on the single Gifted.

If Kanye West isn’t mainstream enough, then listen to this.  Lykke Li has been causing such a buzz that the producers of the smash hit Twilight series approached her to be on the soundtrack for the soon-to-be released sequel New Moon.

The soundtrack was released on October 16, but once the movie comes out, I’m sure Lykke Li will become a household name.  Super talented and artistic, this musician is sure to be around for many years to come, with music and melodies that seem much wiser than her 23 years.

The Best Kept Secret: Parallels From Toronto, Canada

Posted: 04 Nov 2009 10:18 AM PST

There are three things in this world that I can’t live without: synthesizers, female vocals, and anything from the 1980s. Although this band may not want to be equated to an era of shoulder pads and super permed hair, for me Parallels touches on all three of the above mentioned life necessities.

You probably haven’t heard of them and that’s fine but I will not accept any future excuses. Check them out, buy their records, and be  totally mesmerized by Holly Dodson!

More about Parallels and Holly + a music video after the cut!

For someone who has only met Holly in passing I can only make assumptions about her character. Over email she seems very friendly!  What I do know is I love her style! It’s usually very eclectic and vintage-esque. But it is of course her voice  that sold me! It’s perfectly suited for the synthesizers of Joey Kehoe and the drums and production of Cameron Findlay. Together they make a killer trio!

If you are living on the west coast Parallels will be playing in San Francisco on November 20th and L.A. on November 21st. Make sure to check your local listings or go to their website!

This is one of my favorite songs/videos by them and Holly looks stunning!! Enjoy!

I love this song so much that we used it in a Fashion Week video we did! Check the post out here!

You’re welcome! I know you’ll thank me later!
