Brit Awards 2009 Live - Part 4 - Ting Tings, Estelle, Girls Aloud, Duffy, Pet Shop Boys Posted: 18 Feb 2009 01:33 PM PST 21:30 - The Ting Tings and Estelle take to the stage together for one of the most bizarre collaborations I’ve ever witnessed. It kind of works as they boh get to perform their biggest hits but it’s not a patch on last year’s Rihanna/Klaxons mash-up. 21:33 - Alan Carr on stage to present the award for ‘British Single’. What the hell is he wearing? I’m not exactly the most fashionable guy but some of these outfits are terrible. I’ll stick to Primark I think. And the winner is… not Diana Vickers… Girls Aloud. Much deserved, and it means Scouting for Girls missed out. A fact we should all celebrate. 21:37 - Tom Jones presenting the award for ‘British Album’. He’s finally let himself go gray! Good decision Tom, something you should have done years ago. And the winner is… Duffy for Rockferry. Three awards out of three. Adele must be sick as a parrot. 21:41 - Girls Aloud chatting to Fearne, along with Gok Wan and Alan Carr. Utterly pointless again. I never wanted to see Alan Carr holding a rubber duck in my life but it’s unfortunately happened. 21:47 - Time for the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Music’ award. Brandon Flowers from The Killers appears to present the award and continues to bore us all with a story from his childhood. The Pet Shop Boys are this year’s recipients, which I suppose is deserved. 21:51 - Pet Shop Boys on stage doing a medley of their hits, as is the custom. They still look great and still sound bang up to date. How much excitement can two middle-aged men on stage provide though? 21:55 - Lady GaGa joins the Pet Shop Boys on stage, looking like an absolute tramp bag. And then Brandon Flowers takes center stage - much better, classy and spot on. His part was far to short though. Is it bad I haven’t ever heard half of these songs? 21:59 - The show ends for another year. Definitely Duffy’s Brits this time around, although Girls Aloud will walk away chuffed with their first award. A great ceremony as usual, and some brilliant performances. Brit Awards 2009 Live - Part 3 - Take That, Iron Maiden, The Hoff, Elbow, Kanye Posted: 18 Feb 2009 01:05 PM PST 21:01 - It’s Take That’s turn to take to the stage. And they clearly need no introduction, coming straight on after Kings of Leon finish their acceptance speech. They descend from the ceiling singing Greatest Day. They’re all wearing spectacles and look like geeks. Have I missed something? 21:06 - James Corden looks like a penguin in his suit, while Matthew Horne looks like he belongs in the 1980s. Nick Frost arrives on stage with very long, straggly hair to present the award for ‘British Live Act’. If Scouting for Girls win it, I swear I’ll scream. And the winner is… Iron Maiden. Really. Nice. How very old school. The band are on a world tour and accept the award via video. 21:10 - David Hasselhoff on stage to present the award for ‘British Group’. He rambles on in a bizarre fashion when we just want to hear the nominations. The Hoff drunk and rambling? Never. And the winner is… Elbow. Ooh, a surprise for me, although they have already won the Mercury Music Prize this year. A brilliant band finally getting the recognition they deserve. 21:14 - Kings of Leon performing live. Use Somebody is a cracking song and this is a cracking performance. Another awesome set which works for the group on show. I just wish they were a British group really. 21:18 - Elbow chatting to Fearne Cotton. Another highlight of the show. Then David Hasselhoff tries to pull Fearne and the whole thing just gets a little bit too creepy for my liking. 21:23 - The ‘Critics’ Choice Award’ won by Florence and The Machine. This is one of the awards we already knew the winner of. Florence thanks the whole of Ireland and Zane Lowe, Edith Bowman, and Rob DaBank. yeah, whatever. 21:26 - Gok Wan on stage to present the award for ‘International Male Solo Artist’. The man is obsessed with seeing people naked - the big perv. And the winner is… Kanye West. Surprise surprise, he isn’t there in person to collect his prize. What the hell is he wearing? A pink shirt and black bow tie combo… bizarre. [Photo Source: Amazon.co.uk] Tags: Brit, Brit-Awards, British, UK |
Brit Awards 2009 Live - Part 2 - Coldplay, Jamie Oliver, Paul Weller, Duffy Posted: 18 Feb 2009 12:34 PM PST 20:31 - Coldplay perform Viva La Vida live - the single not the album. They’re wearing those bizarre revolutionary outfits again. The set looks incredible and Chris Martin sounds fantastic as usual. 20:34 - Fearne again, this time chatting to Jamie Oliver and Jamie Cullum, two of the most annoying people known to man. Tempted to turn off for the two minutes this trio are on my screen. 20:41 - Matthew Horne perving Kylie - he does the act very well. Natalie Imbruglia on stage to present the award for ‘International Group’. And the winner is… Kings of Leon, and rightly so. They may look like a bunch of tramps dragged in off the street but they’re pure class. 20:45 - A joke about Craig David - harsh but true. The two Jamies on stage to present the award for ‘British Male Solo Artist’. And the winner is… Paul Weller. Surprise surprise, it seems as though the bookies were right and the winners list did leak. Weller not there to accept the award but appears on video alongside Adele. 20:48 - Not content with already winning two awards, Duffy performs Warwick Avenue live, and looks radiant doing so. The Brits used to be renowned for poorly staged performances but the lighting and live orchestra are perfect for this one. 20:51 - Joe Calzaghe and Natalie Imbruglia talking to Fearne. Pointless! Both celebs look awkward and lost for words. Pointless! 20:57 - Calzaghe leaves Fearne Cotton’s side to present the award for ‘International Album’. And the winner is… Kings of Leon. Again, the right, and only possible outcome. [Photo Source: Amazon.co.uk] Tags: Brit, Brit-Awards, British, UK |
Brit Awards 2009 Live - Part 1 - U2, Duffy, Katy Perry, Girls Aloud, Duffy Again Posted: 18 Feb 2009 12:12 PM PST 20:02 - Johnny Vegas’ dulcet tones introduce the ceremony and U2 enter stage right to open the show. 20:05 - Kylie Minogue, James Corden, and Matthew Horne, our three presenters for the night, join the fray. The two male comedians are dressed as lady dancers as they all perform one of Kylie’s biggest hits. 20: 09 - Duffy wins ‘British Female Solo Artist’ - the genius that is Simon Pegg announces her as the winner. She accepts the award, with an accent that is a cross between Welsh, English, and American. 20:12 - Lionel Ritchie runs through the nominees for ‘International Female Solo Artist’. And the winner is… Katy Perry. Really? She’s had, what, one hit? Hmm, she wasn’t my choice for winner. And she comes on stage looking like a transsexual. 20:15 - Girls Aloud come on stage to perform The Promise - understated as usual. Great song, great performance, great bodies. What’s not to love? 20:20 - Fearne Cotton is talking to the winners and presenters back stage from her pink caravan. How bizarre. And Fearne asks all the best questions as always… err yeah. Fearne is lovely but these segments are all a little pointless. 20:27 - Blur’s Alex James on stage to announce the nominees and winner for ‘British Breakthrough Act’. The winner is… Duffy. Again! Two awards out of the first three? Wow. [Photo Source: Amazon.co.uk] Tags: Brit, Brit-Awards, British, UK |
