Idol Stalker - Watching American Idol

Idol Stalker - Watching American Idol

Scott MacIntyre and Megan Joy on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Posted: 24 Apr 2009 12:59 PM PDT

On Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night, Jimmy had three contestants play a game called "Name That Famous Celebrity."  The game is pretty straightforward – a picture of a star is shown and the contestants must buzz in with an answer.  The first person to correctly identify the celebrity gets the points.  Sounds easy, right?  Not when the contestants are an older man, an Egyptian tourist and Scott MacIntyre, the blind finalist from the current season of American Idol.  Fellow Idol alum, Megan Joy, also makes an appearance but you have to be patient if you want to see her!

scott_macintyre_kimmel Honestly, Jimmy Kimmel is possibly a bad person for putting this game together but I cannot lie.  I was laughing so hard that I was crying.  Watch the first part of the "game show" here (Scott comes in at the end):

In the second half of the game, Scott joined in and explained that he is almost completely blind.  Again, I question Kimmel's integrity as a human being (I'm teasing, of course!) but I can't deny this was hilarious (but very mean).  Don't watch this if you think it will make you mad.

American Idol Finalists Celebrate BritWeek

Posted: 24 Apr 2009 10:38 AM PDT

BritWeek started on April 21, 2009 this year and if you're wondering what it is, you're not alone (I had to look it up).  Created by 19 Entertainment's Nigel Lythgoe, BritWeek celebrates the link between Britain and the Los Angeles area.  It's a pretty big event and I wish I could attend since there seems to be a lot going on (concerts, car rallies, plays, art exhibits, business mixers, sporting events, films, shopping, dining, etc…)

Champagne Launch Of BritWeek 2009

Since Nigel is involved, it shouldn't be surprising that this year's American Idol Top 5 were on hand to help kick off the festivities.  It looks like they had a lot of fun!

Anoop and Lil Discuss Life After American Idol

Posted: 24 Apr 2009 10:22 AM PDT

American Idol's most recently eliminated contestants, Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai, have been talking a lot about what their life is like now that their journey on the show is over.  lil and anoop eliminated

"It's easier to go through it with someone else," Desai said of the double elimination. "We can joke to each other. Neither of us is really wallowing all that much."

Both Anoop and Lil talked about the harsh criticism they faced from the judges, particularly Simon Cowell.

"I didn't think it was my worst performance," said Anoop. "But you know, that's the Simon Cowell that America expects. He's very superlative driven. I wasn't offended at all."

"I kind of got to the point where I was like, 'Okay, I don't know if I can win with them,'" Lil said. "I can honestly say I went up there and gave it everything I had each time my foot touched that stage."  And what about all the talking back that Lil did?  "I would not take that back," she said. "It wasn't to go toe-to-toe with the judges or get into a heated argument. I just wanted them to understand that I was being an artist. They kept saying, 'Give me you,' and I'm like, 'But I am!' It was kind of weird."

Lil talked about how her stint on the show has changed her life with her husband and three children:  "It really does blow my mind.  I was displaced from my home when I first got to the show and now we've actually gotten a three-bedroom townhouse. American Idol has done what I knew it could do for me and my family, and that was really bring us back together and get us back in a home."

Throughout the competition, I had always wondered if Anoop would go back to the University of North Carolina to finish his graduate degree if he got eliminated from the show (Carrie Underwood won the competition and still went back to finish her schooling).  I was disappointed to learn that he has other plans in mind (although, I completely understand): "I plan on pursuing any record deal I can get.  Right now that's my no. 1 priority. My only priority. My wildest dream was that I would be a pop star. And thanks to this show, that dream is going to become a reality. I have faith in my own ambition."

Simon Cowell Not Bothered By Recession

Posted: 24 Apr 2009 10:08 AM PDT

While most people, even celebrities, have experienced tougher times with the economic downturn, American Idol judge, Simon Cowell, has actually gotten richer by a whopping seven percent!!!  What is Simon worth?  A reported $175.2 million.  Can you believe that!?!

I can't even fathom what it would be like to have that much money at my finger tips!  He certainly doesn't spend much on clothing or haircuts so aside from those expensive cars and exotic vacations, I wonder what his expenses are really like.

I truly hope, however, that he is giving back to the people who have made him rich during this hard times.  It would be awful to amass this fortune on the backs of people who watch his shows and buy his CDs and not be charitable.  Anyone know of anything that he's actively involved in right now?
