Jill Sobule Launches Verbal Attack on Katy Perry Posted: 05 Aug 2009 01:06 PM PDT Both women have a song called "I Kissed a Girl" in their repertoire (and were signed by the same music executive) but that seems to be where the similarities end. Jill Sobule, who I am not ashamed to admit that I've never heard of (edit - after hearing her song below, I remembered her!), issued a scathing review of Katy Perry as a musician and a person. UK's The Sun is reporting that Jill said the following: "as a musician I have always refrained from criticizing another artist. I was, ‘Well, good for her.’ It did bug me a little bit, however, when she said she came up with the idea for the title in a dream. In truth, she wrote it with a team of professional writers and was signed by the very same guy that signed me in 1995. I have not mentioned that in interviews as I don’t want to sound bitter or petty, because that’s not me. Okay, maybe, if I really think about it, there were a few jealous and p***ed off moments." Okay, so far this is a reasonable, if not a little rude, statement. I can understand her being frustrated about the whole thing and I think what she said above makes sense. Jill isn't content with it, though, since she had to go on to say some pretty harsh things. She said: "so here goes, for the first time in an interview… F*** you Katy Perry, you f***ing stupid, maybe ‘not good for the gays’, title thieving, haven’t heard much else, so not quite sure if you’re talented, f***ing little slut." "When her version came out I started getting tons of inquiries about what I thought. Some folks were angry and wondered why she took my title and made it into this kind of ‘girls gone wild’ thing. Others, including my mother, were excited because they thought I would somehow make some money out of it. Unfortunately you can’t copyright a title… bummer." Ummm… okay??? There is nothing wrong with two songs sharing a title, even if there is a common person involved with both projects. Heck, George Clooney starred in two different television shows called ER (look it up!) and no one started crying. It just seems like she took the opportunity to get a little attention (and it looks like it worked!). The funny thing is that I didn't remember this song at all but as soon as I looked up Jill Sobule's version of "I Kissed a Girl" I recognized it. The two songs are nothing alike so any complaining is just really petty and I'm not even a fan of Katy Perry's. Watch Jill Sobule's video:
