Ian Brown Talks Oasis Split – Urges Gallaghers To Go Solo

Posted: 13 Sep 2009 07:00 PM PDT

Most fans of the British music scene have an opinion on Oasis splitting up, whether that opinion is that it was about time or whether it was a sad day for music. This even extends to contemporaries of the Gallaghers such as Ian Brown, who in his role as lead singer of the Stone Roses had a huge effect on the band.

IAN BROWN

Brown recently spoke to the Associated Press about the Oasis split and how he feels about it. He begins by opining how sad it is to see brothers fight, especially as adults, before urging both Noel and Liam to go solo. He finishes by remembering how the Stone Roses inspired Oasis right from the start of their careers.

“What’s a shame is that they’re brothers. From being 10 and six scrapping on the carpet in the front room, now they are doing it in public and worldwide – I think that’s a bit of a shame for them. Life’s hard enough without scrapping with your brother when you’re a grown man.”

“I would say go solo. I can heartily recommend it. It’s a fine way to be.”

“I always loved Oasis because when they came out, they did express that they loved us and they saw that we did it and they thought they could do it too. We’re lads like they are, and that inspired them. That means a lot to me.”

I have no doubt that Noel Gallagher will go solo because he’s mentioned releasing something by himself in the past. Now that he is no longer a part of Oasis there is nothing stopping him. But Liam? He’s still technically in Oasis at present but assuming the band comes to an end he could have a successful solo career.

As for Brown, his solo career has gone well since the Stone Roses split up. And his insistence that going solo is a good thing would suggest he’s never going to be tempted to reform the band that had such an obvious influence on Oasis. Which is a crying shame but something which most fans are now accepting.

UK Music Charts – Sept 13 – Pixie Lott and Vera Lynn

Posted: 13 Sep 2009 11:42 AM PDT

The UK music charts may mean less now than they used to but they're still an indicator of what's hot on the popular British music scene right now. This week's Top 10 singles and Top 10 albums are listed below.

Pixie Lott Boys and Girls Cover Artwork

The singles chart sees Pixie Lott hit the top spot with Boys and Girls, giving her two consecutive number ones. Last week’s number one, Run This Town by Jay-Z, Rihanna, and Kanye West, falls to number three. Mika’s We Are Golden debuts at number 4, while Muse make the top 10 with Uprising. Not bad for an albums band.

The albums chart has seen history made. Vera Lynn, Britain’s wartime sweetheart has become the oldest living artist to have a number one album. While The Beatles have four albums in the top ten at the same time, all thanks to the remastered back catalog being released last week. This breaks the record for the most albums by one artist in the top ten albums chart.
