Carl Barat: No Libertines Reunion In 2010, maybe 2011

Posted: 02 Oct 2009 06:20 PM PDT

Back in May, The Libertines reformed for a one-off gig at the London Rhythm Factory during a tribute gig dedicated to the late Johnny Sedassy. Since then, there has been much talk of a full reunion happening for the group, with all four members coming back together again to give it another go. But it looks as if we may have a bit of a wait to see this actually happen.

Pete Doherty went on record in August to claim that The Libertines would be back in 2010, with a UK tour and a new album forthcoming. But Carl Barat has somewhat contradicted Pete, claiming 2011 is more likely for The Libertines’ reunion, but even that isn’t guaranteed.

Carl Barat spoke to BBC 6Music at the premiere of Breaking Rocks at Proud Camden in London last night. He explained:

“I’m too busy next year. Maybe the year after that. See how it goes. When it needs to happen, it will fall into place. It’s more a way of life than a band for me. I'm not going to jump up there and play the songs for some money – if it feels right then it will fall into place.”

That’s actually good to hear, that Barat doesn’t want to reunite purely for the cash opportunity it will provide. Instead, he wants it all to come together naturally and happen organically.

I guess the fans who want this to happen (and there’s a definite split) will just have to hope Doherty lives long enough for The Libertines to finally get back together. Which, given the way this is going and Doherty’s drug habit, cannot be guaranteed.

Liam Gallagher After Oasis – Honey Bee Freedom Fighter

Posted: 02 Oct 2009 10:16 AM PDT

When a band splits up, especially one that has been going for years and since the members were young, it must be a nightmare knowing what to do with that new-found time to kill. But Liam Gallagher has managed to keep himself busy in the aftermath of Noel walking out on Oasis and the band remaining in a state of limbo… by campaigning to save the honey bee.

Liam Gallagher of 'Oasis'

Since Oasis split, kind-of although it hasn’t yet been confirmed, I’m sure Noel Gallagher has written an album’s worth of new material, some of which will be generic twaddle trying to hard to sound like The Beatles, and some of which will be awesome. Liam, well he’s probably been on holiday, written a couple of tunes, and given his backing to a campaign to save the bees.

Liam told The Sun:

“You’ve got to look after the birds and the bees, man. The bees are vanishing. We’ve got to save them before they all buzz off. It’s important. It’s a really worthwhile cause. Without them we’re in proper bother. I like honey. If it weren’t for honey, I’d have a rough voice.”

Or should that be “a rougher voice” because it’s already pretty gritty even with the help of the bees.

This is actually quite a serious campaign and any celebrity backing of it is a great and noble thing. But Liam Gallagher? The man who gives off an odor of not giving a crap about anyone or anything, not even those intensely-loyal Oasis fans that have put up with his nonsense for years?

Truly beezarre.
