Mat Kearney Calls Kris Allen “The Real Deal”

Singer and songwriter, Mat Kearney has recently said that he's happy to be working with American Idol winner, Kris Allen, saying that he's "the real deal."

Kearney told MTV News that they joined together in August actually made some great music. He reveals, "We wrote a song and it’s awesome." On how the two started working together, "I think [Kris] was just a fan. What he told me was that he was just picking bands that he liked [to collaborate with]."

When the two finally got to recording the song, Mat says it was like magic. "He sang it in, like, one take and it was amazing. I was like, ‘You should enter some sort of singing contest. You could do something with that.’ That guy can sing."

Not only did he sing well, but apparently Kris is a great songwriter to. Mat gushes, "Someone wants to ‘write’ a song with you, you’re like, ‘Great, you want to come over and I’ll write a song so you can be co-writer.’ He was awesome, and he had amazing input and he had a really strong sensibility. … I was like, ‘Wow, this guy’s the real deal!’ "

Kearney admitted to not really knowing much about Kris, only that he had a wife and was the "cute" guy. He adds "And I knew he had sung [Kanye West's] ‘Heartless.’ "

They really seem to have hit it off! I'm glad they both had a great time and I definitely cannot wait to hear what that song is.
